The modern serial number dont match the other markings, any stampings in area under the grips, or on the face of the cylinder?

Here is what a licensed belgian coply would look like.

The barrel engraving look old and the Cylinder etching looks like something they.made in Spain in the 1960's, the elephant in the room is those wopping big serial numbers look too big a production for a vintage colt of that era.

And yet I put the serial number in the colt database and it has several.

Year of Manufacture
1862
Model
1849 POCKET (.31 CALIBER WITH STAGECOACH SCENE ON CYLINDER)

Possibly a image search of other 1849 colts might help.

According to the the Rockisland Auction yes the old english Saml Colt engraving was used on the barrel.

The serial matches, the barrel letering Font type dont match up to one used on the RockIslandAuction example.
And this was the 1860's
The guy doing barrel marking could have changed and engraved it different
Who knows they might have had 6 different guys engraving revolvers in the colt factory.
What would stay consistant is number stamps, they would have used the same stamps on all their revolvers.
If the cylinders were roll engraved, the roll engraving process should have been consistant.

Itd help if it had a better series of photographs like a light box shoing stamps with grips removed.
In fact the insides might tell you more than the outside would.

This reminds me of a Tavern at closing time, a couple more drinks that strange looking gal with the big adams-apple is looking like a 9.

I’m gonna say if it is a period correct colt it looks refinished at least.

OK. If it is a "49 it is real. All repops that I've seen or heard of are five shot, that one is a SIX shooter. Colt went to six shot cylinders for the "49 some time after 1860, when the better steel became available.

Well I’ve seen a picture of the Colts address stamp looks ok but if it is a Fake I think they could fake that too the over all appearance of the gun looks wrong it does not looks correct the cylinder looks poor . This could be down to age

Is this a genuine Colt made pistol

Nope

It may be a Genuine pistol from the 1850's, but if it's stamped "BREVETTE" then it was a copy of the 1849 Colt, made in Belgium, and the maker paid Colt a licensing fee, and as the revolver met Colt standards, it was then stamped with the word "BREVETTE". I think Ian in the video explains what that stamp means and that there were lots of handgun makers doing stuff like that in Belgium...,

I have an opinion, offered for about what it's worth.

That appears to me to be a pirated/unlicensed period copy of a Colt 1849. Very cool and interesting in its own right, but not the real deal.

Looks like pictures of two different gun barrels, between the first set of pictures and the "latest."

That's the kind of gun I'd pick up at a reproduction price; not antique price.
