Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a genuine Colt flask and a repro? I think I might have a Colt manufactured flask. It's got the cannon and flags on it... Copper.

I recently bought a flask thinking it was an original, but it's not. Apparently flasks are one of the most faked gun items out there.
I read that original flasks had steel screws holding the top on, and the repros have brass screws.

Hmm, this one I dug out of an old box of my grandfathers or great gf's stuff. I remember screwing around with the thing as a kid, and never really saw it again, but when I got my 12 year old cap and ball pistol out the other day to get it shooting again, I decided to go through stuff and see what kinda black powder stuff I couldnt dig up.

Well, by law the imported ones are supposed to be stamped with the country of origin ( I highly suspect Italy or maybe Spain ), but I don't have one in front of me at the moment.

If you know it's history and you remember it as a kid, it's probably an original. Can you post a pic of it? I bought mine at an antique shop.

Oiginals will usually have some particulars about the Spout and he 'plug' which houses the dispensing mechanism.

An original .31 pocket pistol flask I had was marked "Colt's Patented F.A. Mfg. Co. Hartford, Conn." It was stamped on the side of the brass head.

Images...and close ups of the stampng-wording info on the Head ( if any ), close ups of the Spout...would really help...
