As the title states I realize that the the Hornady HS gauge is just a comparator and doesn't give an actual case HS measurement. I was wondering though since I also have a set of Clymer .223 Go - No Go gauges, if it would be at all possible to use the Go gauge to set up the Comparator to obtain an actual case HS measurement to compare to SAAMI? Just a thought and wondering if one of you might have succeeded in doing something like this and if so how you accomplished it? Please excuse my ignorance if I'm asking about something that's not even possible. Thank you for your time.

You can match the comparator to the guage but your chamber is never exactly the same as the guage. If your running a ramage setup you can adjust that a little for minimum headspace.

SAAMI isn’t a specific dimension, rather a tolerance or a maximum/minimum.

If you want to know about a case, in your rifle, just use your rifle. Even if it changes due to use over the years and thousands of rounds, it will still be an accurate indicator.

The Clymer Go-No gauges are different and more for checking the chamber of a rifle itself rather than an assist for reloading. Not sure what tools you have at this point and am not sure what your goal is. These are what I use, but there are other methods.

I would recommend you make your own “modified case” to go with the COL (aka AOL) set. Follow this. Be sure and fire your Lapua brass a couple times to get a good case to chamber fit.
