Ok AR-Guys, what’s the look most accurate bullet weight for a 20” barrel with a 1:9 twist

For my 1/2 MOA prairie dog load...50 gr V-Max (actually Z-Max...I bought a 10 year supply when they were being closed out.). I like cheap and small groups. A tenth above published of CFE 223 works in my heavy ARs and Savage 12 FVs.
what barrel and twist you rocking?

What ever your barrel likes. a 1:9 twist should stabilize a 69gr bullet without any problem. I have several 1:9 twist AR's and each one prefers something else. One will shoot the lighter bullets accurately while both like the heavier pills. The chamber and leads have a lot to do with this. Those will long leads do better with the heavier bullets.

1:9 is a lot more versatile than 1:7... you are able to successfully use lighter bullet weights.

I've had more than a few AR's over the years, Blue is correct... it seems like each barrel, even barrels with the same twist, like different stuff. I think a lot of that has to do with barrel rigidity, material stock, and the quality of manufacturing.

If accuracy is your only requirement, I would pick a quality match bullet of appropriate weight and work on it.

Something I found when I was assembling the last 2 AR-10's... is lapping the receiver for the barrel, to true it up. Barrels and bullets are one thing, but helping the rifle do all it can is another aspect.

If your gun doesn't shoot a 69 grain sierra matchking it's time for a new barrel.

I agree with the 69MK recommendation, I've also had great luck with the 69 TMK.

But, what's your purpose??

the 69 OTM and TMK shoot extremely well in my 1:9" barreled .223s, but I've seen OTMs fail miserably on coyotes. For that application I've had great luck accuracy wise and terminal with 55 BTs.

I don’t have a purpose yet. I have a cool looking A2 style rifle with a old school carry handle and want to learn how to use the sights. But I want it to be effective if SHTF happens.

What’s the purpose, for now... Grand National Match gun... or pretend at least

Understand...try the Sierra 69s!
