Clean Ammo

Hello, keeping ammo clean after reloading is my personal preference, I enjoy shooting shiny brass. Although many claim that it's safe using a vibratory tumbler I personally felt that for the safety of my family as well as my garage, not to mention my personal safety. I built and use a 1/2" steel shield enjoying the safety it provides. Since it is a confined space I run my tumbler for an hour and shutting it off I remove the cover for the same amount of time so as not to overheat. I usually give my brass two hours cleaning time this using treated walnut media. Even though I polished the brass before de-priming, in case I forgot to mention I like shiny brass. If any of this gives someone else a measure of comfort, know that I only clean pistol ammo, keep safe! God Bless

If you use thin cotton gloves while handling ammo it stays shiny and no nasty finger prints. Easy solution and no extra cleaning required.

Just move to wet tumbling. Gets it shinier than new, and all the particulate matter is washed away with the water.

Sounds like he is tumbling after the round is completely reloaded, hence the shield made of ⅓ inch plate steel. :what:

Maybe we will see the shields for sale online one day so we can all be safe.

Wet tumble with car wash and wax after firing with primers removed. The wax protects the brass from tarnishing.

Lube, size, trim, chamfer, debur, remove primer crimp if necessary, uniform primer pocket if necessary, debur flash hole if necessary.

Dry tumble to remove sizing lube and polish.

I tumble loaded ammo every now and then. About an hour. Not 100 times for a full year. Maybe 6-7 times in a full year. Then I shoot them.

I haven't had any problems. It's easier and quicker than white gloves.

To each his own, if you feel the need to tumble after reloading go for it. I’ve not found any credible information on pros or cons for this practice but for me personally I switched to wet tumbling before loading and the brass is like new. I may wash my hands before loading, but haven’t bought white gloves yet and the finished ammo still has enough bling. Good luck.

If your worried about safety and other family members, you should be wet tumbling. There is a huge amount of lead dust in spent cases and with a vibratory tumbler you get exposed to tons of lead dust handling the cases.

Yep, I totally missed the part about it being loaded ammo. Only suggestion I can give is just do it in another room.

The plate steel is not needed. If you have ever had a round go off out of a chamber it just explodes the case the projectile does not go flying like it got shot out of a gun.
As a child living next to a place that everyone did their target shooting we used to pick up live rounds. Just for fun the only thing we could think of was to wrap a single sheet of news paper around each round & put it in one of the holes of a concrete block & light it. When it goes off you will hear a pop but that's about it. It doesn't go boom like it would fired out of a gun.
