So I must have gotten some oil on my glass last time I was cleaning my gun. I have the vortex uh-1 (Huey).

I have tried to use some lens cleaner along with wiping it down with a microfiber cloth and soft cloth but just seem to be spreading it around not removing it.

it is most likely either Balistol or hopps 9 and was probably deposited when I clean my gun after my last range day about 3 weeks ago.

Any suggestions?

Last few eyeglasses I bought from different eye doctors recommended cleaning them with a drop of Dawn dishwasher soap, water, and drying with a micro fiber cloth. Been doing this for years on some expensive glasses.

Go to almost any store and get an eye glass or electronics cleaning kit. 9/10 of them come with a little bottle of solution that is nothing more than water with a small amount of detergent. Oil from skin gets on glasses and phone screens all the time.

X3 on soapy water. Twice a year I rub my clean, wet, soapy fingers on my scope lenses and then wipe the residual water off with a soft cotton cloth.

I’ve tried different methods, RainX, Windex, etc., but nothing does better than method I described.

I don’t touch my lenses with anything in between my twice a year cleanings.

Dawn and warm water work fine. Dawn appears to cling to most surfaces. Wet the lens, apply Dawn and rub lightly with finger on all surfaces. Thoroughly rinse Dawn from finger and lens surfaces using finger under running water. Dry with clean cotton cloth. I had trouble with smears when wiping the lenses with cloth until I realized that I had not removed all of the Dawn from lens and finger.

70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol would be my choice. I have used it for years on telescopes, rifle optics and microscope lenses, no problems yet. Finish with one of those cloths your optometrist gives you to clean your eyeglasses with.

I clean my glasses with dawn dish soap and hot water. The soap suspends any oils and the "hot" water rinses it completely off the glasses.

I clean my glasses several times a day, minimum, smeary specs annoy the hell out of me. I just use diluted 50% dish soap, in my case either green Palmolive or Ajax lemon or orange. It seems to dissolve grease/oil very well and it hasn't caused any of the lenses of my glasses going back over 43+ years of using it to show any signs of it being bad for them. The main reason I use those over Dawn and others is I really really hate the smell of Dawn and some of the others. Perfume/scents are one of the things I have a lot of problems with. The worst of them all is Gain detergent.

So it sounds like my best bet is dawn then or some other dish soap huh? Good to know, that's easy enough to come by. Thanks for the help everyone you have provided me the information I needed. :)

PS. My Question has been answered by all these good people here so if a mod want's to lock the tread that be okay
