$26 bucks for 8lbs of 540 was too much. 1,000 primers and 8 lb jug of powder over $40 dollars.

To put it into perspective, in 1972 my sister bought a Rem 788 in .243 with a 4X fixed scope for $105. In 1976 I bought a Rem 870 for $179.

I don’t think 1,000 primers and 8 lbs of powder would cost you 40% of a rifle these days.

Maybe I’m wrong?

Let look at the average house hold income

1972 = $11,000
2019 = $68,000

thats 6.18x inflation

so if my uneducated statistic in economic 095, that 1972 $8/1k primer should would be $49/1k

These are MSRP from Winchester. Retail was probably less. I remember paying 95 cents for 50 rnd boxes of .22 about 1972
My first car was a '72 Chevelle coupe with the racing cam 5 liter (307 CID). I paid $400 for it, used, in 1977. $400 for a 5 year old car with fewer than 20K miles on it.

If you know where I can get a Chevelle like that today, please let me know. I'll go as high as $500! ;)

Mea culpa. Corrected. I thunk it right and typed it wrong. ;)

$53/K is what a lot of people said they'd never pay because it was scalping, and robbery and just plain WRONG! ...remember? :D
people can pay what they want... ME, I’ll pass, waiting got $28/1,000 !!!

I remember when fried chicken was $2 (out the door) for 2 pc, taders, roll and hot sauce
