AR Recommendation?

A lot of the rifles that have been recommended don’t meet the OPs wants. He wants a lightweight/ pencil 14.5 barrel with a pined and welded flash hider.
I built one for a friend a few years ago. My friend also wanted a 14.4 pencil barrel. I had a problem finding the barrel so I bought a pencil barrel and had it cut, pined and welded. My friend wanted a fixed stock, but had short arms. So I went with the UTG entry butt stock.
I called the rifle the T-Rex.

To OP
If you are unable to find what you want, you can always have it built.

I called the rifle the T-Rex.

My lightweight LRB/RRA build is like that... the entry stock is a tad too short, so I put a 1" Bushmaster buttpad on it...

Colt H-bar on top for reference. I have since replaced the shorty A2 with a standard collapsible stock, but the shorty has it's merits.

If you want one as close to a Colt, I’d just get a Colt.

You could get a higher quality AR for the same amount of money but money no object and you want something as close to a Colt as you can get, just get a Colt.

Might have to have an FFL/SOT turn, blind pin/weld but you could have exactly what you want vs something close.

If cost isn't a big factor, you'll rely upon it for home defense, and you won't be shooting it a lot, it makes more sense to get an upper tier gun that is hopefully less likely to have issues. Shooting less means less likely to discover issues before they really matter.

When I answered this question for myself I got a DDM4V7LW as @IdaD has suggested above:

I have it set up scout style and I have an extra 6.5G LW upper set up the same way. Weight on each is exactly 8 lbs all up but unloaded.

Please tell me that’s a scout scope.

Thank you all for the advice, much appreciated.

So it’s true that Colt is back making carbines for the civilian market? Very interesting. If that is the case, I would simply reuse the entire lower and the BCG, trigger, etc. and get a custom upper.

I have been thinking about the upper and would like a 14.5” pinned and welded pencil barrel with A2 flash hider or other high efficiency flash hider (I need to research what is the most effective flash hider), and with carbine length gas system and I would prefer a flat top front sight block instead of the traditional A frame style. It would have a flip up front BUIS.

I would like a free floated extra lightweight handguard of some kind, either skeletonized aluminum or carbon fiber. Carbine length obviously, The only thing I’d add to it is a Surefire M300 light. The upper would house an Aimpoint H2 micro red dot and mount plus a BUIS rear. I’d be using a 2-point sling so some type of sling mount for the front.

The reason I am set on a standard GI style lower and GI controls is I have experience and regularly use a Colt 6920 at my employment and want to keep all controls and the trigger feel, stock weld, etc. etc. as close to that as possible.

I feel I will need to find a qualified builder to make this “dream upper” for me and need to do a lot of homework on barrel manufacturers, handguard options, etc.

If youre looking for a flash suppressor that works very well, check out the AAC "Blackout". They are available with or without the suppressor mount, and the one without is about half the price of the other.

There was a pretty good comparison test of a number of FS's on YouTube, and I believe the AAC came in second. I forget who was first, and truthfully, I couldnt tell the difference between the two looking at the flash. They were using a meter to measure the flash.

I found the video if youre interested....
