Thinking about Magnum Research BFR 10 inch in 30-30 Winchester loaded to 1500 fps muzzle velocity.

Bullet velocity envelope looks to be 1500 down to 900 fps. Open sights, out to 200 yards, still going 1250 fps.

Maybe CFE223 or Benchmark, about 25 grains, low pressure 25-30k loads. Magnum primers?

Interested in hearing experiences on the Hornady 190 grain bullet. Gel test looks pretty good. Thoughts?

Hodgdon data shows highest velocity with LEVERevolution powder in 30-30 & 170 gr. No 190gr data.

Consider the 460 S&W. Also fires 45 colt & 454. 200 gr bullets at 2100 fps in 460.

45 colt 200 gr 950 fps.

I think that is a pretty new bullet so data may be a bit hard to find. Likely aimed more at 300BLK as they mention semi autos in the info above. Check to make sure a 190 will stabilize in a 30-30, not sure there.

Is your chart above for a 10in barrel? I haven't chronied my 30-30 Contender barrel, not sure if one can get a 190gr to 1500 to start. I would confirm that if you haven't.

200yrds with an iron sight handgun is beyond my abilities. I have been frustrated at 100yds with scoped ones thus far.

I'm thinking the 190 at 1500 fps will be easy to shoot with a longer recoil pulse.

Yes, chart above is for a 10 barrel. Yes, bullet designed for 300 blackout stabilizing at low velocity. Bullet construction is why I'm thinking it should be slowed down a little from the 30-30.

Because of the long bullet, as compared to say 44 mag or 45 Colt, hits and penetration should be good out to 200.

I saw some factory 190gr Subsonic.30/30 at Academy for sale.
A 1/12” barrel might be marginal, but a 1/10” would stabilize it.

Only application I can imagine is in a suppressed barrel.

I’ve got cast bullets for any other application I might have for a .30/30.

24" barrel numbers look good, I'd keep an eye out for the projectiles, based on hodgdon's pistol data (14" barrel) I'd start with either benchmark or 3031, the 175s, and then if you really felt froggy, try the 190s.

I'd also get the rubber grips ;)
