I can't imagine being in a position whereby I would absolutely need to take another's life during a terrifying situation. Yet, if the circumstances were warranted with no other way out, training would need to be relied on.
But, what if we may be confronted by a less lethal threat that didn't require sending the miscreant to his maker? What about a "less-lethal" method that works to end the threat? Here is a new method that I might consider to make use of, should some drunk or PITA, try to inflict something I'm unwilling to give up. The is the 'byrna' less lethal CO2 pistol that propels a .69 caliber paintball size pepper spray filled capsule up to 60 yards to put the attacker down for the count:

This pistol will also work with hard capsules and paintball ammunition, but the web-site video show how attackers are put down, "right now" with the pepper infused ammunition.

I can’t imagine the legal nightmare it would be if an incident ever ended up in court. I’m sure the pistol wouldn’t be non lethal in the eyes of the prosecution. Maybe I’m wrong. Personally if it ever came to a point where I had to pull a gun I wouldn’t want it to be non lethal. You might try posting this in the general or handgun sections here. It might get looked at my more people and it would be interesting to see what others think.

Seems like a good way to just piss someone off or get yourself killed. The easy way out in the less lethal situation is to just back away and avoid it. If you are going to point any kind of weapon at someone you best make sure you can use it and it will stop them. In todays times harassing or taking ones life is going to cost you so choose wisely. ymmv

I have had many training scenarios where I was pepper sprayed and still had to complete my task so I don't think this would have an affect on people who would really want to do something to you. It may do the opposite and really piss them off!

Seems like a bad idea, likely born out of a mind that views taking any life as wrong under any circumstances.

So you would carry it plus a handgun and make a decision which to draw depending upon an evaluation made on the spot. Not me. I carry a pistol and gel pepper spray. If an assailant does not have a firearm he will have to get very close to me to do harm. That is when the gel is appropriate. I see a deadly weapon and the pistol would be drawn. Other than that it is pepper spray when they get close because the closer you are the more effective the spray is. Ad for the pepped ball gun, if you are not willing to carry a gun, it is better than that “pointed stick” we sometimes mention.

Gee, wonder why LEO's carry "Taser's". Carry both? Maybe. It's light as a feather. Did anyone actually watch the video before passing judgement?

Funny thing, our local Law Enforcement "professionals" are very interested in this non-lethal choice, but what do they know? Right?

So what do you do? Shoot and kill some punk for trying to take your "Amazon package" off your front steps?

As I said in my lost when not confronted with a deadly weapon I will go to gel pepper spray. With the pepper ball gun I have to hit the target to get the ball to burst. You do not have to do that with gel. My EDC gel cartridge has an effective range of 15 feet. My in house gel has a 30 feet effective range. The gel does not disburse in air. It just clings to whatever or whomever it hits.

I see a place for it in some environments in which a firearm cannot be readily carried. I've looked at it before. I also don't go for the idea that anything short of a one-shot insta-kill is gonna leave the bad guy soldiering on. Unless I'm targeted specifically by a highly-motivated (read: paid) assassin, very few would want what I can offer bad enough to keep chugging through some of the things people here say they will.

Still, for the general LAC, I find it a lot less practical than a simple OC canister, especially if said LAC is also burdened with a firearm (or two.) It's also a lot more pricey.

I've seen Guardian Angels carrying the Kimber Pepperblaster before. This looks more intriguing for that kind of mission.

What I'd really like to see is the "trigger-puncture" mechanism carried over to C02-powered air guns in general. With the Byrna, the gas canister remains sealed until the first time the trigger is pulled; this allows the weapon to be kept with a C02 canister in place without the concern of the gun leaking down (you have to pull the trigger twice to fire the first round.)

I MIGHT look into a pepper spray hand held cannister, as soon as I can find one with sights. I sorta wonder how many have sprayed themselves in the face, without a training session.
