Since I got my Christensen Ranger and intend to use it as my "general use" .22 I figured might as well go all the way on making my 457 into an informal target gun.

the only major change was adding the boyds @1 thumbhole and a longer bolt knob since it already had a heavy barrel, and a trigger tuned to 2lbs.
I made some modifications to the stock to better suite my preferences.

I dished the right side where my trigger finger usually rubs on the sharp edge.

Ground the forend tip to a reverse angle to make the barrel look a little longer.

and removed some material from, and contoured the bridge of the stock to allow for a thumbs up grip instead of having to put it thru the thumbhole or laying it along the side of the stock.

Its also bedded to the action, but I'm not showing you guys those pictures because my bench is embarrassingly messy.....couple of my buddies were playing a game finding random objects in the pictures I sent them....

I decided the cute little round ball was too close to the stock for my comfort, so made a new knob from some random shop "clutter" it was tapped, had a stud screwed in and then turned in my drill press while ground to shapeish.....I also ordered a real replacement since aesthetically this one isn't real pleasing......so who can guess what its made from?

I stole the S-tac from it to go on my heavy Creedmoor after dropping that one on it scope last week, so cruised ebay looking for a used replacement. What I ran across was a Simmons Whitetail Expedition for 120 bucks. Ive had a few of these scopes and they are really nice for the cost, so instead of continuing the search I added it to my list of parts. Its mounted in Talley high .22 rings, which fit fantastically.

But we love that game! :D

Im sayin either a barrel blank or the leg of a metal shelving unit.

Looks awesome, btw, Wulf!

Thanks guys

maybe ill post pictures later lol....there was literally three days worth of project parts and tools piled on the bench when I took the bedding pictures.

Good guess on the barrel stub, that's the front of a Remington 783 barrel I've had laying around rusting.

Looks great, wonder if there's any tricks for these to help the action to barrel stiffness. I also like the game lol, it's like playing Where is Waldo but Hawaiian style.
you find the second magic marker and you win a prize......you'll have to wait for me to post the picture tho....its on my phone and its dead.

Very nice , I like the modifications you made . The reverse angle on the fore end really does make the barrel look longer . Those Talley rings add a nice touch . You did a great job transforming your CZ into a classy target rifle , Congrats .

I ran across a very tempting CZ 457 Trainer (I think? I'm not all that familiar with CZ models) at my LGS. Would have been about $500 OTD, and it had absolutely gorgeous wood. A CZ may well have to be my next "grown-up" .22 rifle purchase.
Ya, me too.

Can you believe Ive never actually owned a CZ anything (or a Glock, but thats a whole different story)......though Ive owned Italian, Chinese, and Romanian copies of CZs, lol.

Ive been very happy with the quality of thr CZ rifles ive owned and used, and can recommend them.
One of the neat things that i don't really take advantage of with thr 455/457s is their modularity.
You can have barrels in .22, .22mag, .17m2 and .17hmr, all on the same receiver. Stocks swap and you can go from sporter to target in minutes......i tend to stick to a configuration even on stuff like contenders and ARs, so dont use it....but its a neat option.

Only czs ive had are rifles so far...ive had a few EAA small frames but otherwise thats about all the copies ive had also lol.

I bedded the first couple inches of barrel as well as the receiver which isn't something I've done in quite some time we'll see if it has any effect on the groups.
I considered epoxying the barrel into the receiver, and may do that if I start tinkering with this thing again in the future.

That is a great job you’ve done on that 457, I’m sure you’ll be stacking bullets one by one into tiny holes in no time.

As for the the bench? No big deal. I think we all get a case of “busy bench” from time to time, I know mine needed some attention this weekend before I started to tinker. ;)

Once you get a chance to run back up to the flanks of Mauna Kea with it let us know how it shoots for you. :)

Stay safe.

I went decades without a CZ myself, always wanting one but never buying one. That ended once I saw a rarely-fired. lonely CZ 550 in 6.5x55 sitting unloved on the wall of a police-oriented gun store. Even with a nice Leupold scope I got it for under $500 bucks OTD.

Naturally all the love the CZ gets at Rimfire central and other sites put a rimfire on my radar, so when I found a nice 455 Lux on GB I bid enough to be sure it came right home. I used the same tall Talley rings Loonwulf used to mount a scope, zeroed at 50 yards and it’s a tack driver for sure.

(I have a busy bench here, too!)

As a charter member of Enablers Unanimous, I join with the others and wholeheartedly believe you’ll be well served with one... and with a Glock 44, too. ;).

Stay safe.

Hopefully Ill get a chance to ring it out this weekend. Id like to do some longer range shooting with the .22s, but there isn't any place I can legally do it here right now. If I can get access to some private property or make some other accommodations Ill try get some real distance on this and the Range.

My bench is always in a constant state of "busy"....this week was closer to "explosion" lol.....the work surface bench is 8' long and it was piled with crap from one end to the other....got MOST of it cleared off last night, but there's still some random crap that needs to be put away before the next round of brokanics takes place.

:rofl:Haha... Buying your first Glock is like ordering your first plate of poke’ nachos... initially you’re not quite sure how it’s going to work out but after a bit the blend of parts, features and textures somehow come together right. :D

Stay safe!

Lol, My dislike for Glocks comes from the fact that they bite the top of my thumb knuckle unless I actually change my grip from how I hold other handguns...... It's also very frustrating because the glock 19 is one of the easiest guns for me to shoot well.
I've been meaning to try one of the newer ones that has that big beaver tail add-on but nobody I know owns one right now.
