What did you shoot today?

Today like any other was a real nice range day. Have to love the summers for the outdoor range. Today I dragged out a 308 Remington 700 I accurized and really enjoy. I also shot my M1A and AR10 so everything was 308 and all hand loads.

Don't have a pic of my 700 but it is a rifle I totally enjoy shooting. Three rifles today, no handguns and about 5 hours of enjoyment.

Wow! What is the finish on that M1A stock?

Yesterday went shooting with number 2 Son. Wanted to spend some range time before he moves to CA for 2 years with his girlfriend. Thank God not a permanent move.
We shot:
CZ 457 .22lr
Rock River AR15
Mossberg Patriot .243
The CZ is a lazer. Not uncommon for 5 shot groups with all holes touching at 50 yards and groups under 2 inches at 100 yards all with CCI mini mags. Not too bad for a .22
The Patriot is very accurate too with 65 gr. Vmax and Varget. After sighting it in at 100 yards he wanted to try the 8 inch steel gong at 220 yards. He hit 10 for 10.
After that we shot pistols
Ruger Mark IV 22/45
Single Six
Smith Model 14-4 .38 special
Ruger Blackhawk .45 colt
Awesome Day!

Took the 610 out to the gun club this morning and it exceeded my expectations. I didn't reach out more than 20 yards downrange as I wanted to get a good feel for it. The Leatherman MUT EOD in the bottom left corner is part and parcel of my range bag and it came in handy for pushing out the spent 10mm casings from the cylinder and, when using the pliers, for removing the spent .40SW casings from the moon clips. range time 610.jpg

Nothing at all. Today was grocery shopping with my wife day. Ol' gal has a torn rotator cuff so I do the lifting and carrying of what she tells me to put in the basket. I did get some 22-250 and 223 loaded up this afternoon for, maybe, Monday morning. The weatherguesser is showing our rain chance as very high Monday so it's wait and see.

Finally cooled off some here. I shot my CZ 527 in 204 Ruger some this morning. Also a model 64 Winchester in 30WCF got a few rounds through it.

Well I'm technically posting a day late, but I shot a Perazzi MX10 yesterday. Beautiful gun, really enjoyed the experience and pointers I got with it. It belongs to a fellow club member and it was just him and I that turned up for the Saturday shoot and he knows I'm new at shooting trap so he graciously allowed me to shoot his gun that's probably 2-3× the value of my vehicle.

The gun beat the hell out of me though, I didn't say anything because I didn't want to sound like a complainer but it did not fit, although I thought it did because I was able to mount it pretty well and shot a couple pretty good rounds with it.....

I'm interested in shooting the military rifle match at my local range. The rules say it has to be a Bolt Action, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine So I took my Mosin Nagant 91/30 sniper to the range. The rules also say it has to be iron sights so I took the scope off to see how good the sights were. At 50 yds I was hitting within 1.5" of center & at 100 yds I was hitting within 4" of center with my bad eyes.
I don't have any idea how a bolt action, 5 round gun will do against the others But it's worth a try. I do have striper clips, just have to find them.

Sporting clays today. Shot my Beretta A300 and my coworkers CZ 1012. Also brought a new guy today, first time shooting clays, said he was going to get home and look at shotguns now. Must have blown thru 500 shells and over 400 clays in a little over 3 hours. Once the new guy starting hitting them he got better and did well on some stations that were hard.

Got to shoot with a relative.

Broke out my EDC X9 for basically the first time (other than a mag on two range trips) in almost a year, reminded myself how much I love shooting it. Couple HKs, a P2000 and HK45C, and reunited with a gun I sold DW Valkyrie 9mm CCO (man, what was I thinking selling that thing!) and a nice old Ithica 1911.

Pretty fun day to spend with a relative I don't see often. And some guns.

Only time for rifle today. Brought my scoped AR in .300BLK and shot some great groups. I really love that rifle and caliber.

Me too. It had fallen I bit out of favor for me once I got a 6.5 Grendel upper, but since ammo for that is vapor right now and I found a bunch of .300 I had loaded I really am enjoying that as well this summer.

Today: Howa 1500 .223 in Oryx chassis w/ Vortex scope = 1 1/2 in group @ 200 yds:

Happy with that, given my inexperience!!

Cleaned a gun for an elderly friend of mine today, whose land I hunt & shoot on and maintain a few trail cams out in his woods. He has an old Model 1885 Winchester low wall single shot in 22 Long with an octagon barrel. Serial number puts it as about a 1913 or so production model. He's had it for almost 50 years and got it from a guy down the road who had it for at least 40 years before that. He also doesn't even own a cleaning rod anymore and the gun hasn't been touched in years. It was in serious need of some TLC, so today it got it. Cleaned up nice and I brought along some 22 Longs from my stash and we each put a few rounds through it and then gave it a final bore cleaning. Shoots like a dream, I love working that action. Only aggravating part was that I forgot to bring my camera or else I'd be posting a picture of it here. Thought about using my old flip phone but it's a pain and the pix wind up too small when I download them onto the computer. He also has an old Winchester Gallery gun that I'm gonna clean up in the next week or two. I'll try to remember to bring a suitable camera and get some decent photos.

Sunday is our monthly Steel Challenge Match. Last month a new women joined our little group and after everyone gave her recommendations of what gun to buy next I told her not to buy until she could test out some of the guns being used.

She shot the match with a Glock in Carry Optics Division. She brought 300 rounds of 9 mm with her and needed to borrow a few rounds to finish up on Smoke & Hope. She wasn't going to shoot it but when you are on the last stage you can't just walk away. Two guys lent her ammo and she finished the day with a smile on her face.

Then came the fun. Of the 8 of us on our squad everyone asked if she wanted to try out guns. She tested my Black Mamba and said that that is about what she wants for her next match gun but I told her she could shoot my backup gun this weekend, a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite, and perhaps my Mark III Hunter next week to see what fits her hands better.

I cleaned my Mamba and Lite today before going to the range. I wanted to test them and make sure I was lending her a reliable firearm. I wouldn't want her to get a bad experience because her gun didn't work so I fired a few hundred rounds from the Lite to make sure it was hitting where the dot was pointed.

I also fired a couple of hundred rounds from my Black Mamba, making sure my sights are on for this match. Good thing I took the time. I was hitting about 6 inches to the left. After 20 rounds on a USPSA Paper Target I was able to keep all my shots inside the head at 18 yards. Hopefully I'll hit like that this weekend.

Here is this weekend's match will be shot with.

Sighted in the .41 Mag I bought from my best friend's widow this summer. (Russel passed in 2007.) 1-1/2" groups at 50 yards with ammo Russ loaded15 years ago. It was shooting 3-1/2" low and it was easy to get it zeroed. It's a Dan Wesson with an 8" barrel and 2x Leupold scope.
Sweet shooter with the rubber DW grips!
