What did you shoot today?

Shot my "new" cut-down S&W snubbie. Last time out the front sight flew off at 6 rounds...back to the 'smith! Went through 25 rounds today and all went well. Now to finish the project!

Took my sister's 14 yr old kid to the range at the family cabin since he loves Call of Duty and had never shot an AR-style firearm before. He's shot shotguns and pistols, but nothing "cool" like my AR pistol and Extar EP-9. Also let him shoot my carry pistol, a P365.

He loved it and the kid has good form and was pretty accurate.

zastavazpapm70-20.jpg The Zastava (nib) ZPAP arrived yesterday at the store. Scope rail mount on the other side. American walnut. 7.62x39.

Its 1.5 mm thick receiver, compared to most AKMs' 1.0 mm receivers, adds an impression of more ruggedness, partly due to the weight. Designed to be strong enough to launch rifle Grenades.
This rifle seems more rugged than my milled VZ-58.

Trigger is somewhat smooth - Not bad . The trigger group is from the Serbian factory.
-- No Trigger Slap.

The irons sights seem very straight (no apparent 'cant'), hitting a Shoot N See bullseye repeatedly at 25 yards.
Very tight mag fit, safety selector, strong recoil spring.

-- Zero Cheek "Slap", even with the nose a couple inches aft of the receiver.

I mounted my C-More Railway with a 12 MOA dot back onto my Volquartsen Black Mamba today. Only took two magazines to get it centered at 15 yards, and then proceeded to destroy the center of the target.

This is my Steel Challenge gun. I split shooting it in the Rimfire Pistol Open (Red Dot) and Iron Sight divisions where I mount a VQ fiber optic front sight and their fully adjustable rear.

This has all the bells and whistles I want. Basically it's a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite with every upgrade Volquartsen has to offer. I chose the 6 inch because I like to shoot iron sights with it as well as optic and I get a better sight picture than the 4.5 inch version.

These grips are Herrett Stocks. I swap out between these and a set of StonerCNC.com textured grips. My hands slide nicely and seat the same every time with the Herrett's. The Stoners let me get a non slip grip which helps in the summer.

The Volquartsen Accurizing Kit set the trigger at 1 pound 7 ounces and is adjustable for pre and post travel and sets very quickly. The VQ Bolt has their firing pin and extractor which adds to the reliability of the pistol. It is the slickest bolt and requires no oil and only a patch to wipe it clean after hundreds of rounds.

I put the Tandemkross Victory Trigger in but will probably go back to the VQ Trigger. I don't have to reach as far for it. Both triggers are fully adjustable.

Since Steel Challenge targets range in distance from 7 to 35 yards I find that if I'm dead on at 15 I will be good at all the other distances.

i fired a colt - walther 1911 - 22 and a SW model 65. i wasn't hitting all too well, but i had a ball.
The Fun Factor is very important. At 70 I've learned that if it's not fun, don't do it.

I think a 1911 - 22 is in my future. I had a GSG 1911 - 22 and did a lot of upgrades. It shot very well with a wide variety of ammo. My son decided he really wanted it. I haven't found another one on sale now for over a year but I'm patient.

Shot one of my AR15's yesterday. 4 five shot groups. Can't remember the exact loads but it was up to the Sierra load data max for IMR4064 and 69 grain SMK's. All four groups were barely over an inch but a couple had 3-4 of the shots between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. Not terrible for a regular production barrel I think. Might test those two with some different OALS or even move out to 200 and see if one or both break down. Never ending fun experiment.

Lately I've been shooting my heavy barreled LE trade in Model 10 4" to test my 38spl/38+P reloads with different powder, primer & bullet combinations. NY DOC didn't treat the old girl very well but she's a good shooter and if I stick a bullet it's not the end of the world.

Hot,humid and no breeze out back.
"Perfect" for checking the 25m zero on three AR's with some of the IMI ammo that I got and comparing zero with the Federal ammo.
Pretty much the same I found out.
(Now I gotta get the bench put away and do some mowing before the wife gets home.. :uhoh:)

Hotter than blazes but I went for a walk in my friends woods and changed SD cards on some trail cams. Took along the Ruger Single Six to start practicing for squirrel season opener on Sept 1st. . My goal last year was to combine trail cam duties with .22 handgun squirrel hunting but I blew both the opportunities I had. Put a few cylinder fulls through it at his small shooting range on the way out of the woods. Maybe this year I could get one with the single six or else start carrying my scoped CZ-455. Here's a pic of it on a trail cam from a few weeks ago. IMG_3401.JPG ...

Had a pistol day at the range yesterday. Started by sighting in my air pistol on 10 meter targets, then my Victory at 50’ targets, & finally my M&P9 and Shield at a silhouette from 25 yards. I need to build a pellet trap for the back yard. That 10 ring is tiny, let alone the x ring.

The closest I have come to shooting lately is look through my new to me Maven C1 8x42 binoculars at targets. :)

Hi...
Spent about 3-4 hours at the gun club yesterday.
Ran four magazines each through two of my 1911 .45ACP and another four through my son's 10mm Glock.
Then I shot approximately 20 rounds each through several different .357Magnum revolvers, including my 686 Silhouette Model, my three screw BlackHawk, my 27-2, my Dan Wesson, one of my Colt Troopers and my son's Taylor & Co. SAA clone and his S&W Model 66.
After that I switched over to .45Colt and fired the same approximately twenty rounds through each, including my BlackHawk, Model 25, two original full size Vaqueros, a nickle Uberti SSA clone, a Schofield clone and a Remington 1875 clone.

That is all I can recall at the moment. I never made it to any of the other semi automatic handguns or the .41 or .44Magnum revolvers or any of the pistol caliber rifles.

I know my son shot each of the rifles and a lot of the 9mm, 10mm, .40S&W and .45ACP autoloaders and at least some of the .357, 41, .44Mag revolvers as well as the .45Colts.

Lots of brass to separate, clean and reload this week. My son does the cleaning of the firearms so I don't have to deal with that chore. He also reloads the autoloading rounds and the .357Mag ammunition on the Hornady LNL progressives, while I do the big bore revolvers on my RockChucker.

At any rate, we had a great time ringing the steel plates and then breaking rocks on the 25yd berm.
My speed drills with my .45Autos and DA revolvers at 7 and 15yds went really well with only an occasional miss...all my fault because of rushing a few shots.
SA and DA shooting at 15 and 25yds went very well also. My attempts at speed drills at 7 and 15yds with the various SA revolvers went well accuracy wise but were slower than I would like.

All in all, a very enjoyable day at the range.

Today was a good day. I took out a S&W Model 15-3 running some 148 grain HBWC over 3.0 grains of Bullseye.

I also took along one of my Colt 1911 guns, a Series 70 Gold Cup which I always enjoy shooting.

Lastly and not pictured a Ruger 22/45 heavy barrel which is just plain fun to shoot. All in all a nice morning. The range was also quiet with only a few shooters making for a nice time. Since my last visit new ownership and nice improvements including a range officer any time the place is open.

Took my new Ruger Max 9 out to the backyard range today. Ran about 50 rounds thru to check fit/function. This one may replace my Shield 40 as my EDC if all goes well. A little smaller profile plus 12+1 mags. Very little recoil for a 9mm sub compact.

I ran my Spanish FR8 in X51 and Spanish 1916 7mm mauser today.

The FR8 was really off and I only had 20 rounds so cranking the offset front sight post took a few tries.

I can no longer see the front sight post clearly due to a cornea penetration 20 years ago. Using a red dot, I see 3 dots and a red spur.

This is what it should look like.

Here's the 50 yard target using the last 9 rounds. I have yet to make the load decision so was shooting for group and will zero when the load is chosen.

I had some loadings for my small ring Spanish sister to the FR8. A 1924 dated 1916 Oviedo 7mm Mauser. No decent loads or targets yet. I'm looking to get the velocity up to around 2200 and see where that gets me.

I'm probably going to take one of these rifles to our old mans and young kids rifle doe season in the last week of Oct. Range will be in the 75 yard max range so I'll see if I can hit anything with these OR, I'll have to revert to my parts gun, the National Ordnance 1903A3. It scored a doe last year.

A little gratuitous watermelon and cantelope blasting. I grow them and these were damaged or rotted. Forgot to take pics of them, but here's some of the keepers. Oh, and my blasters today were Sks and Civet 12ga.
