It will only take 1 VOTE to defeat Chipman

So here's what I've done with the information.

My buddy is the President of Pink Pistols. Sinema is openly bi and an LGBTQ advocate. I provided the information we've processed here to Erin and asked if PP would reach out to her as a "sister" to provide the LGBTQ pro 2A view on why Chipman is a train wreck as an ATF director.

Great idea!

One thing all politicritters understand is numbers! The more numbers you can put on the table, the more they feel the heat, IMO.

Case in point, back when NRA was working hard to remove the prohibitions on mail order ammo, components, etc., a friend of mine who was the NRA area rep for Texas and Puerto Rico called me and asked if I had any pull with my congressman. It seems that an anti-gun committee member was holding up the bill to repeal the prohibition (of ammo shipments) in committee and that they had the votes to pass it if only they could get it to the floor for a vote before the session ended in a few days! NRA lacked only two more signatures on the bill's discharge petition which would force the bill out of committee and our congressman had not signed the petition.

I had zero influence w/said congressman, but I was the high power rifle director for our local club, held membership in and connections with two other rifle clubs in his district, so called his office and introduced myself as **** Gun Club legislative director (self appointed and elected by acclamation of all club member(s) present at the moment;)). Explained that I was sending out a bulletin to club members (I was sending out our monthly HP match bulletin) and wanted to know where the congressman stood on the matter so I could report his views to the membership.

I was told he was considering signing, but had not made up his mind.

Long story short, after two or three calls and getting noncommittal response, we were running out of time, so I advised that our club was strongly in favor of the bill and had a membership of over 300 members, that I was a member of another gun club w/750 members and in close contact with the officers/members of a third club of 1000+ members (all of like mind on the issue and in his district) and would advise all that our congressman had not decided whether to sign or not.

Only then did I received a call back from his office advising that he had signed petition, the bill went on to the floor and passed.

Numbers count!

That's fantastic!!! Good job!

Just what we are supposed to be doing...do something.

There is an AZ Pink Pistols group that will carry this message to Senima.

BTW, I expect PP will send the information to the WVA and Maine PP chapters and perhaps those Senators will withhold their vote.

People with connections like your relationship with the PP person are very good to have on our side.

I don't have any such connections, but I keep my one email group up to date on 2A stuff. The folks are all conservative but not all are gun owners (yet). They all also have lists of folks to whom they forward stuff, so the larger circle is all of us plus all their other friends. (I have another email list who are raving lefties, sadly relatives, to maintain the relationships I don't send them political stuff.)

And I am a member of NRA, SAF (life member), AzCDL, and JPFO, and make extra donations to SAF and AzCDL besides my membership dues. I stopped donating extra to NRA out of disgust wtih WLP's antics. I also financially support pro-2A candidates for public office, and I write my relevant state and federal representatives.

Keeping an email chain up to date on 2A goings on is good as long as that includes doing and not just talking.

The rest is all good, but below the threshold of THR's Activism since paying into activism groups is the minimum we all can do without effort.

People with connections like your relationship with the PP person

I became acquainted with Erin through 2A activism and any of us can do the same. Nothing extraordinary about it. Matter of fact we all should become acquainted with people involved in 2A activism and our elected officials and local news persons so that we can reach out to them personally and that we can coordinate others doing it so we aren't just lone voices.

The only such person I am friends with is Doris from Jews Can Shoot. She moved to AZ shortly after I did. I can ask her whether she's already contacted Sinema re Chipman. The good thing would be that she looks like an organization as opposed to a lone citizen.

Fox News reports today that FIVE Dems are undecided on Chipman:

several Senate Democratic Caucus members still haven't publicly announced whether they'll support Chipman's confirmation. They include Sens. Angus King, I-Maine, Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., John Hickenlooper, D-Colo., and Jon Tester, D-Mont.

Two good points from member Gordon-

ATF has over 2000 sworn agents, over 700 investigators, a workforce of over 5000, and a budget of over $1.4 billion. Mr. Chipman has never led an organization anywhere near that size and scope. While in the Bureau he never progressed to the Senior Executive Service or to senior leadership within the agency. Even though he was an ATF agent, He would be the least qualified individual to lead the agency in its history.

Mr. Chipman's strong personal beliefs on firearms issues will create serious and long-lasting problems for the Bureau and the effective execution of its law enforcement mission. ATF relies on effective partnerships with industry, stakeholders, and other law enforcement agencies to execute our missions. Unfortunately, ATF partners would see someone who is coming to the agency with his top priority being to implement a divisive gun control agenda. The suspicion and hostility his leadership will bring will destroy those partnerships, and the prosecution of gun crimes and other violent crimes, will suffer. The Bureau has been neglected because it lacked a Senate Confirmed Director to advocate for the the Bureau. David Chipman is the wrong person for the job.

Great information. Although both my senators are a definite NO, I feel a couple more calls/letters coming on. Thanks for the ammo, will pass it on.

David Chipman's background, from the photos of him at Waco, appears to be as a criminal enforcement agent.

The bulk of ATF work is actually regulating and inspecting lawful commerce in firearms, since the vast majority of gun owners are law-abiding citizens buying and using guns for traditional and lawful purposes.

Chipman is a former criminal enforcement agent who has spent years working for gun control crusaders who see gun owners as potential criminals and domestic terrorists.

I don't think he's the right person for the position. But he was Biden's choice.

White House planning to withdraw ATF nominee

The White House is planning to withdraw David Chipman's nomination to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, according to three sources close to the process.

Chipman is currently a senior policy advisor to Giffords, a gun control group, and faced an uphill battle to Senate confirmation as President Joe Biden's point person on firearms regulation. Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) had previously told the Biden administration and Senate Democrats that he was not supportive of the nominee. Other moderate Democratic senators, including Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana, have also remained noncommittal on the pick.

Chipman, meanwhile, faced universal opposition from Senate Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell described the nominee as an "anti-gun extremist" and asked for the White House to withdraw his nomination.
