What is your favorite Centerfire Varmint round and suppressed Centerfire Varmint round?

I don’t have any firearms with suppressors as I feel suppression is a violation of constitutional rights.

I use a .243, have a .223 and my favorite(which I don’t have) is 22-.250 with 1-7 to 1-8 barrel twist.
Are you saying suppression is against the constitution or having to do the nfa "hoops" - the way you worded it it sounds like you think suppressore are against your rights...

Well boys and girls I was just having fun, a play on words if you will. I have nothing against them, I like them. And I wonder about the archaic attitude expressed by government and politicians in this country about suppressors. In a number of countries with very strict gun control suppressors are not regulated and in are in fact encouraged.

Here in KS my varmint hunting revolves around 3 species:

Coyotes (Called, distance is usually 25-100yds)
Muskrats
Beavers

I own a 9 acre pond and a smaller 3/4 acre pond. Aquatic mammals are a real PITA when it comes to dams and banks.

For all three I've gone to .223 in bolt guns and ARs un-suppressed. For muskrats and beavers I sometimes resort to a 12GA with green light loaded either with #1 buck(beavers) or #6 (muskrats).

This round is a bit pricey but nothing like hitting a varmint with a 7mm Rem Mag

Something about a red mist.....I found similar results when I had my .300 Win. Mag. I figured I'd extend my coyote range to about 300 yds. with it. Longest shot actually taken on a coyote with it? About 50 yards.

Something about a red mist.

It never was my favorite, but when I used to hunt chucks with a 25-06 any head shot inside of 100 yds. would completely take it off.

.223 now. I need to get a suppressor or something quieter if I'm going to continue to hunt around the house. I always thought a Hornet would be perfect for the kind of shots I take nowadays.

+1 on the 17HMR; I think a lot of guys overlook it for their shorter range work, seeking instead the power of .204/.223/6mm/etc. The 17 has been excellent for me out to 150 yards, and is quieter than most of the heavier calibers, my .222 included. Varmints from p-dogs to 'yotes can be taken, provided good shot placement.

Favorite: 22-250
Most used: 223
Current best rifle to the task: 243

Since all of those are traveling at Mach 2 or above, sound suppression seems a bit of a moot point. Varmint ranges tend to not be conducive to 950fps rounds, at least in my experience. And suppressing supersonic rounds is complicated at best.
Mind, I prefer a nice long barrel for varmint shooting, and there's typically not a lot of blasting away--so it winds up not being a huge burden, at least to me.
Others may differ.

For prairie dogs, 204 Ruger in an AR-15. It shoots a bit flatter out a bit farther than the 223 Remington.

22-250 in a bolt action.
