The Gen4s that have Gen5 counterparts (G26,19, 17, 34, 27, 23, 22, etc.) are being phased out. The Gen3s are still in production mainly for California with its BS roster.
Otto: said:If I was in the market for another G17, I'd buy a Gen 3 over a Gen 5 without thinking twice.
The internet tried very hard to convince me that the Gen 4 was garbage, but it’s still my favorite. It just feels the best in my hand. My Gen 3 feels “stiff” to me and I just don’t like the magwell on the 5. Those are just minor personal idiosyncrasies though. All three will stop the same threat.
I've read about short chambers in the Gen 5 guns, at least in early models. Some have commented on forums Glock corrected that, but I still see an occasional comment here and there from folks buying new ones.
The Gen3 is so popular due to the fact that there are so many different after market parts for them. But this could change with all the new Gen3 copies that are coming out.
I can’t say that I like the Gen3 more then the Gen4. My Gen4 G17 is a great shooter and I qualified with it several times.
I don’t have a Gen4 G19, but I do really like my Gen3 RTF G19.
Why would you prefer a 4 over a 5? Nothing against the Gen 4, that is the gun I keep in my bedside table for home defense and I trust it with my life.
Why would you prefer a 4 over a 5? .
No you can’t no one’s buying mine for $575.Because a Gen 4 is more valuable than a Gen 5. I could sell a G17.4 (NIB) for $800 easily. It's called the 'forbidden fruit syndrome'.
I also prefer 3 pin guns and a greater availability of spare parts.
