Building a back stop part I

Range update in my haste to get it done because I was trying to prove a point (being a stubborn Man has its downsides) I mismeasured and I’ll have to start all over including tearing down the sandbox so Friends stay with me this is a long term project I will get it corrected thank you for your patience and understanding!

Just out of curiosity, what could you have been so “off” about that requires a complete redo? I’ve adjusted plans before based on errors in my calculations. Unless it’s dangerous, I would be hard pressed to throw away all the work you’ve done!

The range is 86 yards not 100 yards so I can’t move back so I have to “redo it”

Looks like somebody’s been putting an awful lot of rounds through that target stand without waiting for the berm to be finished.

Yes I move it around and use it not the backstop because I don’t want to put a lot of rounds into the backstop!

I still cling to a thick (at east 1 inch) and large piece of steel at the back of built up berms.
Sand filed piles of tires, at least two rows for 100% coverage, and then about 8 feet of sand
with an inch of steel at the very back.
When I lived in a more rural area I had a steel box (1/2 inch sides, 1 inch back) that held around 30 inches of newsprint.
I could test fire forming loads for AI rifles.
From outside the front door it was a very dull thud.

The basement walls where poured concrete.
At one point the back of the house was in a 100 year flood plane by a very few feet.
Predicted to be about 24 inches up the foundation wall..
The builder just rented forms and poured all four basement walls.

Later the state put the creek in a culvert further reducing the area of the 100 year flood.
Lower and flatter lots.
People on both sides of me had a lot more problems than I did so the state finally stepped in.

That target stand moves I haven’t shot into the back stop like that it was just there for that photo

also I’ve decided I am going to plant apple trees on either side of my range roughly 5 yards in between each tree from the next I think it will be 12~15 ft wife that way it will help with noise look pretty and provide me with something to eat so I’ll be shooting through an apple orchard of sorts can’t wait for the snow to leave so I can get back to it!

Update again the “Pill box” I built isn’t getting torn down I’m using it’s as a pistol Bay so to speak! The rifle range has been moved to the left of the Pill Box where the target stand is is a good rough estimate of where it will be!

Looks good. From the photo, it looks like you have terrain forming the horizon behind both target areas--which is good.

Row of trees is a good idea, too--and some long range thinking (NPI). Put in a range of Apple varieties, too, s this can help with polination. As can using a nut tree between the varieties. Fruit trees will help moderate down-range winds, too.
