Stress Test Today

The doe turned broadside and posed at about 40 yards. The smoke boiled from my Ruger in-line obscuring the results. Much to my surprise there was no white belly in sight, After reloading I eased to the spot to find a blood trail going off of a 30-35 degree grade. The deer had gone 50 yards down into a hell hole and had started up the other side for 25 yards before running out of gas and staggered back down to the bottom. I field dressed it and retrieved my little 4-wheeler. I always carry a climbing harness that doubles as a drag harness. The 100 yard drag up the steep hill reminded me of a stress test except there was no doctor present to call a code blue. You can bet your favorite muzzleloader that this 70 year old Grandpa will shoot the next one in the middle of the road.

My neighbor shot one tonight just before dark. He called me to help him find it. We searched for 2 hours in heavy brush. No luck. Temps are going to be in the upper 40's over night. So it will probably go bad by morning.

You need a winch and a long rope on that ⁴wheeler! You don't need to have a grabber over a box of venison.

We rarely need to drag one here. Its pretty flat. I did have to borrow a small rowboat, drag it through the woods in order to retrieve a little basket rack 8pt that my son shot across the flood water from his stand.... I told him, "whatever you do..,don't shoot one over THERE unless its a MONSTER....!"
I guess it was to a 13yo!

Same here. I have heard 3 different packs get cranked up at dusk on this 800 acre place. I field dressed deer by the road on this farm. Drove the ATV by it 2 hours later and the gut pile was gone. This was midday too.

A good dog is worth his weight in Alpo if he will blood trail.

He found it this am. Lowest temp was 56. And it had flies already on it.

They always lose about 30" when they hit the dirt

My wife's first buck was a little 8 point. She thought it it was huge until it was next to the other racks. She couldn't understand why I kept saying it's a good first buck till then.
