I recently reorganized my ammo supply and found numerous boxes of assorted .357 Magnum, mostly Gold Dot.

I've never owned a gun in that caliber. Where'd that stuff come from? If it wasn't Santa or the Easter Bunny, must've been a sweet & gentle reminder from my wife that she wants a 4" 586.

Ever happened to you?

i've got around 350-400 rounds of .40sw and no .40 gun, but it's not mysterious as to where it came from. 100 rounds are courtesy of my defective eyesight, i picked them up thinking i was buying .45. the rest are from my former job. if anybody close to me wants to make a trade, i'm game...

When Walmart was selling off all their handgun ammo, I bought some in 9mm, yet do not own one. (Yet....) Could also explain why I have @ 3K of 9mm brass.

I did that with .410, 44, and a couple other calibers. Got 5 round boxes of the .410 for 1.25 each and the 44 was 5.00 a box. Spent about 100.00 on ammo I didn’t have a use for just to give it to folks that actually needed it and not let gougers get it.

As to the OP, I have found boxes of ammo deep in the stash in calibers I have never had. Some was gifted to me as a “you shoot guns, right?” And some I have no idea where they came from. I was convinced they multiply in the dark and some were just degenerate offspring that mutated into oddball calibers.

Ammo fairies, but usually I have less ammo that I thought.
Now I know what happens!!!
Its like EBT except ammo; its FAT ... Fairy Ammo Transfer, they take ammo from someone who has it and redistribute. :(

I have--rando stuff will just "appear."
Some of it is well-meaning gifts--that rando box of Barnes X in .280 was a gift, as was the Nosler .222 (don't own either caliber).
Some are random that I picked up "for reasons" then forgot about.
The Hirtenburger all-plastic 7.62nato clearly was one of those.
As was the sample pack o .38spl in plastic cases.
And the box of 9x19 simuition.
The box of mixed .30-40krag was somebody's gimmee, but durst if I remember who it was.
Do our kind of "stuff" for long enough, and such things happen.

You don't own a single 9mm handgun??

Not currently. Was getting close to pulling the trigger on either a G2/3/4/Taurus, or a G19 before Covid, but since all I have is @ 400 rounds, and no reloading components (except brass and primers) or dies, and considering prices went up about then, I held off. I have owned a couple 9mm pistols in the past, the last one being the BM I had about 10 years ago.

The only time I've "found" ammo in my house was when I was cleaning the garage and found a shopping bag with a couple bricks of golden bullets, receipt included. As soon as I found it I remembered the day, had been about 2 years prior when I had just gotten home and walking through the garage and my wife met me and demanded I drop everything to help her with something in the yard.

After talking this over with my wife I think I've solved my little mystery. The names and places remain anonymous.

Couple years ago my wife and I removed a young lady from a home: toxic, abusive stuff. Went in while the dude was at work. Closets of firearms. Most vicious dog I've ever seen.
Best guess is she "donated" some ammo to us that was lying around, un-stored. Just a guess. Anyway, it was common property at the time.

Doesn't take away from the real need to own something that will digest the stuff!

Side note - she's insanely happy now, in a new and wonderful relationship, and bad dude stopped harassing her.

You got a very smart wife. Is she pretty too? I just picked up a 586, 6 inch nickel plate and not only is it the prettiest gun I've ever owned, but it also has an extremely smooth action and is quite accurate. I had to trade off a Trooper to get it, but it was well worth it. If I were you, I'd keep her happy and satisfied.

Though we've only been married 8 years (22nd of this month), we were friends in college. We're retirement age now but very much unlike me she still has her terrific college figure.
I'll snatch up the first 586 I see in a gun shop, but it's starting to look like an online purchase.
