Does anyone cast this bullet and shoot it in 45acp. The crimp grove makes it look like it's for colt. I like the design minus the crimp grove and curious if the meplat is to big for good functionality. Any better options?

I didn't have any luck with it in 45acp...had to seat it ridiculously deep to keep the bullet off the lands when chambering. I've had others tell me it can be done...but thats not my experience. Its possible that powder coating exacerbated the problem, but the issue is moot now. Got the 200 SWC mold and have been pretty happy with it. I have the 452-200-1R six cavity mold, ill send it to you if you want to try it out.

I had the 2 cavity mold. @bersaguy is right, I had to seat OAL to 1.100" for it to pass the plunk test. If I only put 5 or six in the magazine, they cycled okay. Any more, and they would jam.

I got some rnfp 200 grn bullets from mussouri I believe, but I havent seen a similar mold available.... maybe it's an in house design.

Have a XD Mode2 and a Tanfoglio Witness that cant shoot SWC at all, they just won't feed. Now both of these same guns just love these RNFP cast loaded just like this. Though I did have to cut the powder down because they are seated so deep. Case mouth is just above the crimp groove. Leaves nice clean holes in paper too.

While heavier than you were talking, if you want a wide meplat I’ve been liking the Lee 230gn truncated cone. it feeds without issues. Used it for a bowling pin shoot, it really smacks those pins around. BD773562-8957-4D09-8C76-FD299441626A.jpeg

MP molds has their 452-200 mold. I have the 4 cavity brass hp mold. Works great in 4 1911's I own. I see they have a 6 cavity non hollowpoint in stock now. Might be worth looking at, depending on how much you are wanting to spend. 2nd picture is next to a 230gr Extreme plated bullet.

It looks to be if the case mouth is just above the crimp groove on the RNFP, the amount of bullet inside the case would be the same as the SWC.
Why would the charge have to be reduced...?
I'm only asking for curiosity's sake.....:)

Looks are deceiving, they are set substantially deeper than even my 200gr Lyman RN cast.

This is the bullet that I cast and use in my 1911 and S&W 625 45 ACP/Auto Rim. It's a 200 grain truncated cone design. It feeds with no problems in the 1911 and chambers easily in the 625. Since the design has no sharp corners or edges it fills out and drops out of the mold easily. It doesn't punch the perfect holes that a wad cutter punches, but the holes are good enough for my use.

I use the lee tl452-230-tc, the lee tl452-230-2r, and the RCBS 45-201-swc.

The lee moulds both drop heavy, the tc at about 238 grains. But it also seats deeper. I've worked up loads with 231 and wsf for it. It feeds okay, but sometimes I can feel my slide clunk as it jumps the feed ramp. I have one mag it wont cycle through, but it functions fine in the others. Through my mil spec 1911.

I had a few like that in mixed brass, I ended up giving them on the PIF in the cast bullet sight. After I loaded them.
