Tips on choosing a pistol safe for airline travel.

I use this Pelican Vault V200 bought from Bass Pro last time I flew to Florida. I place it in my checked luggage. Don't use TSA approved locks. Do use padlocks and have it locked and in your closed suitcase, when you check in. Do notify the check in desk. I also put my fixed blade Mora Knife in the box with guns, mags, and ammo. My holsters were left loose in my suitcase.

Sorry the delay cancelled your trip. Pretty much all of my field-harvesting experience involves helping to cut and bale hay for winter feed, so I can’t imagine all of the moving pieces and dates that need to align to successfully prep-sow-grow-harvest-transport-and then market food crops. My hat is eternally off to the men and women like you who do so much every day to keep us fed!

As for the 1150 Pelican, it’ll literally squeeze in a 2.5” Model 19 or 3” Model 13, but there won’t be much, if any, padding left around the edges to keep the gun from getting knocked about. I’d go one size larger to the 1170 if you’re looking for a great travel case for those guns.

Good luck with the harvest… and stay safe. :)
I still haven't purchased a tsa type travel case for my ccw. My largest gun will likely be my sr9c.
I like the pelican case, but not the exposed hinges..and I want a tether cable.
I'm not sure I mentioned it but we have an open jeep as our third (playtoy) vehicle. I need a lockable box in it too with a tether cable.

Gotcha.
For vehicles I bought these Bulldog vaults. They’re probably too heavy for TSA depending on how much you pack in your suitcase, but for the vehicle they’re great. (In Ca it’s illegal to leave a gun in a car unsecured.)

This may be an option for the Jeep .

Edit: forgot the image:

Looks like some cold weather is heading your way this week, keep warm!

Clear sailing Friday....usually there is a line....

We had a health scare on my fnl who is in Florida. We thought we would be headed down there asap...that got me thinking about a tsa case again.
I want to be able to secure it in my luggage.

Looks amazing!
I hope all goes well for her Dad, it’s a tough time to fall ill right now.

Stay safe.

Good luck to you and your family Armored...and as previously pointed out...you guys that till the soil are true hero's. As to transporting your CCW...a good Pelican is a lifetime investment; get one big enough for two guns as you'll always find the space handy. When travelling, I stop by the airport the day before travel to check with TSA for any glitches and current procedures and to check on the amt of extra time necessary. Best regards, Rod (39 years of flying for USAF, Braniff, People Express, Continental and the last 20 with UPS.)

Flying down to Florida later this month for a couple weeks. Debating just taking my Ruger LC9s. I like having the Glock along on the trip but rarely carry it down there.

I use pelican brand in the appropriate size. I have a smaller one that fits a 7.5" revolver and a bigger one that fits a 34" shotgun. Of course they both fit plenty of anything smaller. I use one for pistols, the other for shotguns and rifles. I believe I bought Pelican Storm cases. Very durable.

Nice! I recall Braniff International … and TWA, Continental, PSA, Hughes Airwest, America West, Pan AM, US Airways and a few others no longer with us. . As s kid flying on Braniff it was always fun to guess what color the plane would be when I flew on their 727’s. (Braniff was one of the few who flew direct into San Antonio from Las Vegas when I was a kid so I flew on Braniff almost every year.)

Last time I flew with guns I squeezed a Model 12, a 722 Remington and a LeFever SxS into a double rifle case I picked up at Big 5. Somehow we all made it from Dallas to LA none the worse for wear.

Stay safe.

I'm flying to Florida Monday. Debating which guns or gun to bring.
I picked up a new Glock 43X and outfitted it with Shield Arms mags and night sights. Was thinking I would just take it along on this trip.
Then I shot it and this happened...

G43 FTE.JPG

It only happened once in 1 of the 3 Shield Arms mags. The front night sight (that I installed) also came unscrewed which actually might be the cause of the failure to eject. Anywho, I think I'll leave the 43 at home and take my G19 and Ruger Lc9s Pro with me again.

I had similar problems with Shield mags. No issues in my G43X, but the 43X MOS just didn't like them (gen 1 and gen 1 Shield mags were tried). I ultimately swapped back to the OEM mag release and now carry the 43X MOS with 10 rounds. 10+1 and I get a WML and red dot. I can live with that over 15+1 and no add-ons.

I ran another 45rds through the 43X with the Shield mags the other day. Worked just fine but my AmeriGlo front night sight came loose on it again. Put some loktite on it. I think the stem on sight is not large enough for the hole in the slide.

Anywho, flew down to Florida this morning. Only brought my Ruger LC9s Pro with me. While I liked having the reassurance of a 2nd gun, I wanted to save some weight and not deal with the hassle of a 2nd gun. I mostly only carry the Ruger while down here anyways. Also carrying 2 backup mags. No issues with the airline other than having to wait 15 minutes, or so at the gate, after checking my bag.
