Wanting to buy a 1911

I have a Springfield loaded chambered in 9mm. It has great feature set. Shoots great and is reliable.
Tight like a high end 1911 should be. My only complaint is the cannon logo on the slide. From the examples I have seen, the 45 version does not have this problem.

Many do, but not all.
And if the bushings are in tight enough, it really doesn't matter all that much.
Now, loosing the bushings is a sub-ideal situation, without a doubt (don't ask me how I know).
got a great deal on a Colt because that bushing made the stock mags not drop freely. :) happy mistake for me!

My first (of only two) 1911's was a beat up old Colt army issue I purchased in the mid 70's for $75 (including a holster). The barrel was pitted but it shot pretty darn well anyway. Some years later I had a gunsmith switch the original army issue sights and installed a new target grade barrel on it. I still shoot that old pistol regularly and in a life /death situation I am easily willing to bet my life on it. Much later I bought a Colt National Match for target competition that is also a joy to shoot. However I must admit that the old Colt 1911 war horse shoots nearly as accurately as the more expensive NM target model. If you want a 1911 my advice is to go for it, you won't be sorry.

I would love a old Army Colt. Might put my name in that lottery that the CMP does!

16445983472554446627211112146790.jpg I picked up a parkerized Loaded in .45 the other day. It's used but in really good shape overall. Original grips, night sights are still bright, and a box-stock trigger. It seems like the makings are there for a good shooter. Only "complaint" I'd have is the lack of checkering on the front grip area, but for the price I can live with it. The trigger, not so much.

For less than the cost of a Kimber LW and only a couple hundred bucks more than a mil-spec RIA, the SA Loaded definitely has some good features.

My first choice would be a Colt manufactured 1911A1. Let's own the ''real thing''! If not my second choice would be the Ruger SR1911, any excellent firearm at a decent price. Remember, you can customize any 1911 with any and all accsessories you desire and still have an excellent shooter.

I think the S&W Pro Shop 1911 are underrated. I tried one at the shop:
; buttery slide, very crisp safety, and a perfect trigger

Does not the S&W 1911 style pistol have an external ejector?
Does not the SR1911 have an investment cast frame? (as I sit here with my RIA cast 4140 frame ;) )

The GI pistols that have the spur grip tear my hand up. And I do not have genteel hands. I love the way they look but but not the way they grind and bruise my hand. I guess I do not like the beavertail look except I installed one on my RIA and both my Kimbers have them due to functionality, not looks.

Kimber, well, some of the bits are MIM but the frame and slide are CNC milled forgings and at the price point as much as some hate Kimber for whatever reason, I think they are fine pistols. I bought that Stainless II not terribly long ago and compared it to the SR, Sig, SA Loaded and the Kimber just was tighter, the edges of the parts finished, no scratches (the SA had numerous deep scratches, these were new!) and the Kimber felt tighter and smoother.

But saying that, my next 1911 will be a Colt 1911 GI model and to heck with the spur, I will just wear gloves :). Why? So when I am at the range and the know it all comes over with his Colt and starts blathering on about MIM-bers and RIA junk and this and that I will just reach in my range bag and lay my Colt on the table so he will go away and leave me alone. Then I can go back to shooting my RIA because it is funner ;).

I never met a 1911 I didn’t like. even my prissy STI VIP .40 that hates everything

They had a basic government new Colt for $600-$700-ish at my local. It was ok, safety was spongy and the trigger was new Colt. But it Say “COLT” on it. I thought about it. I do like man jewelry

I think that sort of man jewelry is completely appropriate! You should go get it now :).

Everyone needs one 1911 in 22LR.

I have not had one before and I have settled on the Springfield loaded model in 45.
I cant see spending the $$ on a Brazilian made Springfield Loaded anymore. The prices I've checked are close to (or more) than a Colt Competition model by now. Same with the Ruger sr1911, paid $725 nib and now I see thier pushing the 1k mark around here. Ha!

There used to be a decent mid range for 1911's. These days, 2022, I'd either get another Rock Island Armory for beating around, or skip to a "mid range" Dan Wesson for only a couple hundred more than the Springfield Loaded.

Oh I don't know about that, Demi-human. The 2 I've owned were just well known gun brands stamped on a GSG or other foreign copy and ftf/fte were fairly common. I'd say "everyone needs to own a Ruger MK .22lr". :D

At the SA loaded model price point it's a hard gun to beat. I read that SA is now making the Loaded in the U.S.

Do you have links to confirm that the Brazilian gun is now manufactured in the States? Because I've never heard of that.
