That's it for Russian steel case, right?

I really don’t understand panic buyers. I guess I understand it to some extent after a mass shooting event, or something similar. But after elections and now, who exactly didn’t see this coming?

If you didn’t see this coming, maybe you should consider not owning a gun.

The old saying “stack it deep when it’s cheap” is more applicable to ammo than anything else I can think of. And the dips and peaks can usually be seen coming well in advance.
I mean we’ve been knowing Russia would invade since 1-21-21 or if you give everyone the benefit of doubt you may push that back to August of last year. Which still leaves you plenty of time to stack a pretty good pile, certainly more than you could have bought in the last 2 days.

There are a significant number of gun owners and shooters who a have foresight of a door stop.

Here is what I’ll be shooting from pretty much now on:

Projectiles can be made from any cast lead or even pounded into shape from range scrap. Black powder is easily made with some know how and things that can be bought at any hardware store or online, or made yourself (charcoal for example). This matchlock uses a piece of smoldering cotton or hemp rope/cord for ignition. My flintlocks use a ROCK to make the thing go off.

Most self reliant guns there are. I’ll keep a few cases of ammo around for my ARs and pistols but all recreational shooting will be good old black powder.

If you don't have one, see if you can pick up a cap and ball revolver. Tons of fun.

Oh yeah, I’ve got four of them. Here’s a couple with my most recent shipment of powder:

Also have a few thousand CCI #11s.

Is that an Old Army on the right?

I have picked up the cap making dies and tried them out on my rifles. Even the most balky ignited as well or better than a standard 11 cap. I need to try some out on my revolvers, although I am in no way short of caps.

I wonder about other Eastern European manufacturers. I hazily recall some Red Army Standard being made in Ukraine. I wonder how eager the Poles, Hungarians, Serbs, etc. will be to export ammo at the present moment.
In the US availability will probably be nonexistent for quite a while now, but here in Europe it might get interesting. This whole conflict will end, sooner or later, and when that happens the surplus market may well explode like it did after the war in Kosovo. That may or may not trickle down to US market later on.

I have plenty of .308, 7.62x39, .223, 9mm and reloading supplies so personally this is only of academic interest, but if cheap surplus will be available again in the future, I most certainly am about to stock up again.

Central Texas Academy is selling Russian 9mm for the same price as Blazer brass. Blazer aluminum is $2 cheaper.

Lots of ammo in stock but it was crazy busy at noon Saturday. Felt like when the plandemic panic kicked off.

The range was dead yesterday morning, but it was under 20 degrees and I think a lot of people stay in when it is very cold. Not setting up foot in a gun or sporting goods place if it's going to be my a CT seething madhouse.

Prediction, Biden and his anti 2A coalition will use Russia's foreign policy as a pretense to stop all Russian arms flow to the US permanently. There will be an executive order, like DACA, that subsequently will be impossible for later administrations to reverse with their own executive power.

Let’s hope the Russia/Ukraine war stops in Ukraine. LOTS of politicians and officials in high places talking lots of BS on both sides. This thing could escalate and spread really quick. Of course at that point, we’ve got bigger problems. And yes the current administration will use all of this to hurt gun owners and control us more.

I know the previously approved import permits were to be honored, but with Western banks no longer issuing letters of credit for Russian dealings, various sanctions, etc., that has to be it even if they wanted to export ammo in the middle of a large ground war, right?

PSA is about to start making steel casesd ammo.

Let me rephrase that ....

"Palmetto State Armory to the rescue!"

It's unfortunate on the one hand that when those first cases hit the shelves from PSA, it doesn't matter if they're $0.50/rd or more, they will sell out immediately from panic buying. I get it, I really do, if I had a gun and no ammo for it I would buy at least a lil at whatever cost. It's just a bummer, and kind of irritating actually that just as things start to calm down a lil.........smh.

It's always gonna be something, war, elections, mass shooting, etc.... it just seems alot of us are more easily prompted to alarm and begin panic buying setting off a domino effect and cranking the prices right up in a hurry.

Russian steel case 9mm at the local B-Mart is about $15-18 per box. Its going quicker this week then the last month before.
Still a fair amount there, since I think most people still prefer brass to steel case.

And people often forget that these Huge quantities of Russian ammo are Already Inside US warehouses.
Selling what is here provides many American jobs . This seems to 'escape' many gun owners.;)

The Russian companies Received their Cash many weeks or months ago.

If ammo Already here and --paid for--by importers is “evil”....
…then my new all-black PTR-91 rifle Also is Evil. Former Senator Dianne Feinstein said so, therefore it must be true.

Look I am against politicians taking anti 2-a actions to artificially drive up the price of ammo. But this is not that. This is a natural consequence of real world events that are happening.

and I don’t mind not buying ammo made in a country we are [about to go to/currently at] war with (guess it depends on your definition of war and when you read this) even if it means prices go up a little.

Everything else aside I very much doubt anyone was considering how this would affect US ammo prices when they were scrambling to try and stop Russia from invading Ukraine. I don’t trust politicians any more than the next guy but guys this isn’t the time.

If this gets out hand you all better get right with Jesus fast. Having enough ammo will be the least of our problems.

And this time, we don't have JFK to see us through.

On a more firearms related note, I find two things somewhat disturbing: 1.) It took a repeat of Hitler in the Sudentland to get gun owners to realize that they shouldn't have been buying ammo from the communists, and, 2.)people are complaining about a lack of com-bloc ammo.

PS: Taiwan is next. Just think how many everyday items are going to go up in price when we sanction China.

Wake up and prepare.

posts #71 & 72 for the win IMHO.

PPl are DYING, homes destroyed, gas lines CUT / BLOWN UP(on purpose), that's about the most INCORRECT time to worry about ''is my lil bullit gonna cost more?''

Especially when there is in fact, OTHER sources for ammo. Including the much beloved steel case ammo.

Grab another cup of coffee, reset the priority list folks. Way less then 1 week in, we are not 100% from NEVER getting involved in this yet!

Sir,
I like your post.
Just yesterday I was inspecting my meager ammo stash, and it hit me: So what if I were to have a warehouse full of the stuff? Am I going to use it at the range or am I going to wait on an event when we get invaded and I were to do my duty with my rifle in my hand?
This is madness, I thought, and took my 200 rounds and blasted away at the range. All done!
So, if or when we get invaded, I hope that the people with a bigger stash can do what I will not, due to ammo prices.

Nothing wrong with assessing the implications of world events. Nothing I personally do makes a whit of difference in any case.
