Soon to mine Lugar that has a safety issue. Safety on, pull the trigger, take the safety off and it fires. Otherwise operates just fine. Easy fix?

Like this?

Safety on, pull the trigger, take the safety off and don’t pull the trigger again and it fires.

A long time ago, I read a magazine article called "Troubleshooting Your Luger". I did a Google search for those exact words in the hope it would be online now. I didn't find it, but a bunch of other stuff came up, including Youtube videos which could be useful or at least interesting. Might I suggest you try that until somebody shows up here with specific knowledge?

This a Youtube video about some kind of Luger trigger problem, for example:

But yeah, if it were me, I would be hoping someone who knows exactly how to fix it would come along. :)

This is an interesting video

When you receive your Luger clean it. Get all the oil and compacted grease out of the firing mechanism. I have purchased a couple of old pistols where the mechanism was glued into place by old, oxidized oils and greases. I don't recommend using brake cleaner, that stuff penetrated my nitrile gloves and gave me a chemical burn. Skin pealed for almost a year. The body does not have a means of neutralizing these modern synthetic compounds once they get into you.

From what I see in the video, there is a spring loaded plunger that is critical to re setting the trigger. If that spring is stuck in place, and not pushing the trigger bar back, I can see that creating the conditions for a misfire.

The safety function is shown. You will just have to look at the parts and their inter relationship. Something is obviously not resetting.

I already watched the video posted by Monac. I will watch the other video today. Can’t sleep jet lag from my trip to Germany. Should adjust in a few days. Talked to my dealer. He might let me come Saturday. Have 15 to transfer. He is closed weekends. Not 15 Lugars.

I have cleaned some pretty dirty pistols. So I agree a good gleaning is first. I use some degreaser and dawn in my ultrasonic to get them clean. Then rinse, dry, and oil. Depending on the part of course. Thanks for the input.

Hmm. Could there be a problem with German lubricants? Besides guns (and other things), I collect Zeiss cameras. They used a funky green lubricant, that over many years has turned into an adhesive. And a Contaflex camera, unlike a gun, is almost impossible to disassemble for cleaning. (You can try it, but you'll go insane.) You can try a shot of carbon tetrachloride, but if that doesn't work, the camera has to be relegated to display only. Hopefully this works better on the guns.

I think the German military, and many German shooters, were big on a product called "Ballistol", which I understand is pretty good stuff. But in the 75+ years since 1945, this gun could have run into anything from 3-In-1 Oil to bacon grease, so yes, good call.

Thanks for the insight into German cameras; it amazes me what people here know, and that's a good reason for dh1633pm to hope someone can answer his specific question.
