Loctite isn't recommended for installation of the ejection rod. Correct procedure is to torque to 45in/lbs on dry threads.

So I took the 500 back to the gun store. No questions asked sending it in on his dime and he apologized for any headache caused. He also told me if it wasnt right when it came back he would let me trade it for something equal cost.

@thirty-eight. It is all good, very interesting story. Im not very experienced with .454, have shot one that belonged to a friend a time or two but that the extent of it. I do Have a Super Redhawk though, in .44 magnum and a 7.5'' barrel

Well, I finally got my 500 back. :)

According to the paper they either repaired or replaced the extractor rod and yoke, made adjustments on the internals sighted it in for me and did a bit of polishing. The extractor rod still seems to walk out a little bit but the gun cycles with no problem now so I am not going to send it back in for that. I tested it out using underwood 325gr. extreme penetrators. Shot just fine. It did not have as much kick as I thought it would but Im guessing the heavier projectile cartridges would kick a lot more. Im just glad they fixed it. The extractor rod still being alittle off kind of bothers me but it is what it is.

Yes, with those 500’s the heavier loads will kick MUCH harder, even if the muzzle energy is 300 ft lbs less.

I’ve found that the 440gr Grizzly brand ammo kicks the worst out of everything, even the 700gr stuff. 500Mag is my favorite round and we enjoy shooting it from my rifle and revolver. A very close second favorite is my 460Mag, not as much in the recoil dept but a step up in the noise concussion dept. Keep shooting your new tool and enjoy it!
