Just happened to notice this on my T9 Elite today. Not sure when it started. It's some pretty major rust but it's only on the the parts that haven't been polished. According to Kahr this serial was from July 2020. I bought it used in October 2020 so it's not under warranty. I feel like I would have recognized this by now had it been there sooner. My Colt Cobra came with rust on the side plate but they removed it when I sent it in for RMA over something else. Outside of that lone experience, I have NEVER had any of my stainless guns rust before. I'm freaking out.

Update: I pawned it to pay on a PTR 91 I won in auction. Don’t think I’m gonna worry about the rust anymore…well until I inevitably decide I don’t wanna lose it for good and get it back out.

0000 steel wool and your oil of choice, some light rubbing should clean it right up.
That might leave shiny spots, though. Since its a matte finish anyway, I would find a local shop with blasting cabinet and hit it with some silica media- clean it up quick and leave a uniform surface finish.

Of course, if you put a high-polish on it, it will be more rust resistant and easier to clean going forward.....

I don't see what your talking about. But I gave up on the crappy China 0000 wool we get these days. It breaks into small sharp pieces and scratches. Get a Big 45 cleaning pad and don't look back. All I've used the last 20+ years for surface rust. Best thing EVER. Brass or bronze wool would be ok if you can find it. Usually used in marine applications. Buy the B45 pads from the makers site. Cheaper and you know you get the real thing. They are great.

Well...the sides are already polished so it wouldn't look too out of place. I'd at least like to keep it somewhat matte though.

Huh, thanks for the heads up, Im going to give this stuff a try.

I'm not seeing it but I would not use steel wool on a SS gun. You will be asking for rust to form. I would use a good penetrating oil and rub it down, it should come off.

The only time I see a SS gun have a lot of rust is when someone does the bead blasting with contaminated media, steel. The blasting drives the steel into to surface then you have it every where. I keep all of my media separate for this reason.

I'd like to add the Big 45 is NOT a stainless steel pot scrubber. Those will scratch metal. I found these back when I was getting cheap milsurps in the late 90s. They cleaned a lots of crusty guns leaving the original finish.. Plus I,ve used them on regular blued/stainless guns with surface rust or discoloration.. Some that had flash rust all over cleaned up to look almost new. Yeah these pads work. For 6.00 bucks you can,t go wrong. They last a long time.. I've also used them on other metal cleaning. I need to order more.

Also. I HAVE NO affiliation with this product. I just let anyone know about it because it works great. Good luck.

Maybe try some Flitz on it. Should remove the rust and leave a protective coating to prevent future rust from forming.

Brass wool is also used in crack pipes, same for the pure copper poor boys.

Some jurisdictions have banned there sale in order to curb the production of memorabilia.

I have an old Essex Arms 1911 frame that was blued (and I'm being generous calling it that) that began to rust as soon as I started handling it. Eventually it got to the point where I had to do something about it so I sanded it to remove the remaining bluing and then polished it by hand using 0000 steel wool. I then polished it with Flitz. It still looks as good today as it did when I first started cleaning it up and the rust has never returned!

1. Put generous coat of light oil on the affected spots.
2. Rub with your thumbnail/fingernail for a little while.
3. Wipe off and assess.
4 Repeat 1&2 until rust is gone.
5. Apply light coat of oil to entire area.
6. Check gun occasionally afterward, as it will be more susceptible to it happenin again.

I agree. Steel wool and stainless don’t mix well. Stainless steel welds have to be dressed with a stainless steel brush for a reason. The carbon steel left behind buy the steel wool will rust. How much depends on how well it is cleaned.
