Please suggest a fixed stock for an AR-15 rifle with heavy recoil.

So I have a really nice fixed stock on one of my AR-15's that I built in 450 Bushmaster. The stock was made by Remington and was initially used on the Remington R-25 GII (a camo DPMS GII). Just before Remington went belly up they also release a few AR-15 450 BM rifles under the Bushmaster brand with the same stock in black. The one I have come off one of these rifles. The stock included a Remington Super-Cell recoil pad and compared to the standard A2 fixed stock it greatly reduced felt recoil. I would like to convert my 30 RAR to a fixed stock and would love to find another one of these stocks but so far all my searching has not turned up anything and I suspect unless I come across a used one I am not going to find one.

So I though I would ask THR what their favorite fixed stock is for a heavy recoiling AR. I have long arms so a stock with a Length of Pull longer than the standard A2 would be desired. Good recoil pad would also be desirable.

I remember asking you about that stock awhile ago because I wanted it for my 450 BM. I didn’t have any luck back then either finding one.

I have used the Strike Industries Modular Fixed stock for 450 BM and would recommend it for that cartridge.

At one time, there was an optional thick rubber recoil pad for it. I can’t find it now listed anywhere. There may be some other options though. I’m sure I could mount a Limbsaver to it with only a few mods.

I had a match bushmaster with a full stock and it had holes in it for a 6 inch lead weight

I like the Magpul PRS, used it for my 7mm Valkyrie. Now it gets used for my 458 SoCom, should take a slip on limbsaver.

Currently on my 30 RAR I have a Fab Defense GL-Shock on a carbine tube. It actually really does suck of the recoil nicely but I would like something without the play of the carbine stock adjustment.

Do you have that thick recoil pad on you rifle. That stock with that additional pad looks like it might be a good option.

I never got around to buying the thick pad. I used the stock with the thin pad at the range with a t shirt and it thumped you but not unacceptably. It’s never bothered me hunting in a t shirt either. I’ve used the rifle hunting in MI with thick clothing and you never notice it.

I should note, it is a carbine stock. I use the medium heavy buffer weight with standard spring. For me, that is what I like.

Have you looked at Ace skeleton stocks? That would be my choice for durable and lightweight.

The Skeleton stock is good but I don’t like it for 450. It just punches me. I did not mind it on my LR-308 though.

I have an ace on my 20-inch 556 AR. For 3-gun shooting I found it a good stock but for my 30RAR I would like a little more recoil pad and a better check weld surface.

Or better yet, instead of plain lead, what about a mercury recoil reducer in the same hole?
I realize adding weight manages recoil and if this was a bench rifle or even a PRS rifle I would be happy to add mass. But its a middle Tennessee tromping through the hollers rifle and I would rather not add mass. If anything I would like to make it lighter. A super cell or similar quality recoil pad on a well fitting stock should be sufficient for the moderate recoil of 30 RAR it a lot more than 556 but only about 75% of a 450 Bushmaster.

Figured the mercury damper was worth a suggestion, as it's at least lighter than a similarly sized block of lead.

What are you using for a muzzle device? That may be a good way to tamp down recoil without adding weight.

The cookie cutters are absolutely horrible looking, but apparently very effective.

The barrel is unfortunately unthreaded. So a muzzle device is not an easy option.
