I am shooting a CZ 457 Varmint MTR with a Weaver Classic V 4-16X using CCI .22lr SV.

It is sighted in at 50 yards and very accurate however for some reason I will start shooting in the 2 o'clock area on IBS Rimfire 50 yard targets.

Am I doing something wrong squeezing the trigger or what?

Any and all advice is greatly apricated.

I have a Remington 37 that I have used quite a bit.

I am currently shooting a Remington 40x with a Lilja barrel, Jewell trigger, Harrell tuner and 36x B&L scope.

The biggest difference in the 37 and 40x is the 37 has just than a 2 pound trigger. The 40x has less than 2 ounces.

Dang 37 not 34

im getting old and thank you for the info

I shoot a CZ 457 in ABRA competition. ABRA allows unlimited sighters before and during the record shots. It will take 5 or more shots before the rifle settles down and stays on poa. If I take too much time between shots, waiting for the wind, etc, I will put another round on the sighter area to make sure it is still “warm”. Some rifles take more shots to settle.

Try better ammo is the first thing I would do. CCI is decent ammo but it is not match ammo. You might need more follow through. IDK. Is there a specific number of shots when it happens meaning heat related. Could be bedding or barrel.

I think there are a couple of things going on here.

I do not think the ammo selection of CCI Standard Velocity is the problem. If the OP is getting one group on Target A and a different group on Target B, with the target being the only thing changing, the ammo is not the problem. Most likely there is a subtle change in shooting form. I can relate from experience that those impossibly small BR targets bring out the worst in me.

It is certainly true that moving from CCI Standard Velocity to a better match grade ammo is a group tightener. That is my experience moving to SK Standard Plus. That brand is a global standard for practice precision RF ammo.

The last element is the equipment. I do not know CZ rifles. From experience in 50 yard bench rest shooting, the OPs 16x scope is right on the lower edge of competitiveness.

Keep us posted on developments.

My experience so far, and it is limited, tells me that just about anything I do even minutely wrong can give me a “flyer” which might be only 1/4” out. It is a precision game.

My low end competition guns are a really old 52, a CZ455, and a built up 10-22 with Shaw barrel, Jard trigger and Ruger laminated match stock. None like CCI sv or green tag. Eley Club is the minimum for the guns to perform well.
20-24X scope settings, is needed for my eyes. Shooting dots is way harder to me than shooting groups as each shot is a different position, although slight. I can “think” a shot out of the X if I’m not careful. Lots of fun but my 77 year old eyes and nerves have taken me out of serious contention.
Years ago, I was pretty good with a 37 REM and a Lyman 20X Super Targetspot and Eley Tenex @ $5/box. (1978)
Still fun.

Some days I can't miss a target no matter how many dumb things I do. On other days hitting the target is priceless, but I am poorer than a church mouse. When you are hot you're hot, when you are not -- just quit and go home, it is much cheaper!
