Leaded barrels … yet again

Smith and Wesson can call 'em strawberry shortcake, they are still CHAMBERS............y'know, the part of the gun that holds the shell!

My take is that S&W got occupied by a buncha relatively gunignorent types...........likely from N.Y or N.J. or more likely California!!

& 627???" My stuff has at most a double number....the 19 is just that, the 629 is an outlier, the 39 again is as stated..........& they have chambers, regardless of what their maker may say.

I've use Lewis Lead Removers for at least 45 years. Chore Boy works well, too. Verify that it is all copper. I recently got a Big 45 pad. It works as well. Three good choices.

I use Choy Boy's and found them to be very effective, especially for cleaning muzzle devices and chamber ramp on AR's.

Curious minds want to know, so I actually took the time in 2014 to email Choy Boy and inquire as to the nature of their copper product: Their Answer: Screen Shot 2018-04-14 at 8.56.49 AM copy.png

I use the copper chore boy if I need it, since I've been using hi tek coated bullets I haven't needed to get the lead out.
No need for anything fancy, tie a wad of choreboy onto a shoe lace or length of paracord and drag it through a few times. You can put it on a brush or jag too but I haven't found it necessary .

Chore Boy responds telling you their scrub pad is 99.99% pure copper and you show a copper coated scrub pad from another manufacturer. Plus stainless steel pads.

What are you trying to communicate here?

Well, in my brain I had a compare & contrast theme between Scotch Brite and Chore Boy copper scrubbers.

The structure of Chore Boy is essentially 100% pure copper whereas Scotch-Brite pads are created by a sparse unwoven polymer such as cellulose, nylon or spun polypropylene fiber. Products use several variations of hardening and abrasive materials, such as aluminum oxide (alumina, read sand-paper), titanium dioxide and resins.

Uploaded wrong files and forgot the contrasting paragraph! IF i were to spin this in a contemporaneous manner, Scotch-Brite pads prefer to "identify" as
Chore Boy pads. LOL!

As stated before,Do not use a tool that spins when a up and down motion is required. This will erode the sharp edges if the rifeling. If you want to get technicle and want to build a Rube Goldberg gadget unstead if a drill use a recipricating tool like a Sawzall. replace the blade with a cleaning rod. ( big smiley face)

I have a S&W .45 Colt Mountain Gun that I fired Hornady swaged cowboy bullets thru (BIG mistake). Ever since then I have lead smears in my barrel, some long enough and thick enough the cover up some of the lands and grove 1/2 the length of the barrel.

I’ve tried cleaning the barrel with Hoppe’s #9 and oversized bronze brushes to no avail. Is there something besides Hoppe’s? Should I attach my bronze brush to my drill and ream it?

Some have suggested firing 100% copper bullets thru it? Other have suggested Linotype bullets?

Suggestions?
The absolute best tool is the " Lewis Lead Remover " it designed and made to completely and easily remove lead from barrels . It will not harm your barrel and is made specifically to do the job right . Do Not go shoving some power tool attachment down you bore ... extremely good way to ruin it .
You can fool with Chore Boy , copper wool , brass brushes , Hoppe's #9 and Ed's Red Bore Solvent from now untill the cows come home ... but nothing will do the job like a Lewis Lead Remover ($43.99 from Brownell's ) ... the best $44 you will spend on lead removal tool ... adapter kits available for other calibers .
Go to Brownell's and order or do a search ... Lewis Lead Remover is the name you want .
