It's probably been 20+ years since I have purchased a new scope. I picked up this new Leupold for my new M1A yesterday. There are some really nice features on it not even heard of 20+ years ago. I am very impressed with the scope. And it was priced accordingly.

Yes they have, though Im still amazed at the light gathering of my old EL Paso Weaver K4 or the clarity on my positively ancient Unertl.

Still, for serious work, I have excellent glass from Burris, Nightforce, and Meopta which blow away the vintage stuff. Unfortunately, I wasn't super impressed by my last VX3.....it was ok, but didn't wow me.

Weaver (the first Weaver) was my first scope. The Cadillac and a tank of a scope at that time. Maybe it's my eyes only but the Leopold's have always given me the clearest and crispest sight picture for the money. I'm not paying $99.95 for a scope nor $1,200 for a scope either. The Leupold I bought yesterday had that same crispness and clearness that has kept me a Leupold fan.

It is a solid scope for the price point, no doubt.

It's kinda sad that fixed power scopes have gone out of fashion. The old Japanese Tasco 4x and 6x scopes have absolutely incredible images. I can only imagine what they would look like if built with modern techniques.

I've also gotten hooked on the "Babby Redfield" 4x 3/4" tube rimfire scopes. I have two originals and I'm planning on trying out the Gru-Bee reproduction in the near future.
