Firstly I’d like to state that the “Broomhandle”Mauser is on my bucket list of guns I’d like to own before I die. Second I know that they seem to do nothing but go up in price.

I was at the local gun show today and there is in fact a dealer who specializes in Mauser pistols there. He had several with prices I simply can’t do.

But he also had an Astra 900 there as well for just under $1000.

I understand that its NOT a Mauser and the internals are different arguably simpler or easier to disassemble.

My question is. Is $1000 for a decent price?
Decent bore, fairly rough finish but no pitting. With sadly some bad scratches on the side plate disassembly notch.

I really want a “Broomhandle”, and $1000 is a chunk of change for me but its no where near what good Mausers go for.

Thanks y’all for sticking with me. I know I’ve been chatty on the forum lately.

I would have bought it. An Astra 900 is more interesting to me than the more common Broomhandle, and they’re also generally a 1000+ gun.

I really don’t need to spend the money. But the opportunity doesn’t always arise. I’m going to sleep on it.

As a novelty item, the Astra is much less common in the US than a real Mauser.
But if you want something to shoot, the Mauser is better known and supported at least for small things like springs.

My neighbor has the Mauser bug. He recently bought an Astra 900. He thinks he made a bad deal. It was missing a pin and has a homemade takedown wedge and a non-functioning safety. When I looked at it, I noticed it had an impossible serial number in the 143,000 range. They only made 32,000. The only marking on it are on the removable side plate and they are missing the word "pistol" and "cal 7.63" after the Astra Automatic. We could find no source of parts for it. Because of the lack of Spanish proof marks it may be a Chinese copy. It has a decent bore and may make a decent shooter if replacement parts could be found.
