The moderator of H&R in memoriam Johnny Guest wrote in August of 2009 of "Where are there primers for sale?" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/where-are-there-primers-for-sale.469495/

It is my hope that we'll be able to discontinue this "sticky" soon, when the situation improves.

And as we endured the "Great Component Shortage" of 2013, we started the "Where are reloading components available?" thread to pool the collective resources of THR to outpace many search bots in posting available reloading components for members - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...nts-available-not-a-discussion-thread.707473/

Then the pandemic hit and we began another thread in 2021 "Where are Reloading Components Available. (Not a Discussion Thread, Link Required)" with requirement for sales link and "no discussion" disclaimer to reduce noisy chatter - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...not-a-discussion-thread-link-required.883031/

While we still groan from lack of available reloading components to high price of primers still hovering $80-$100/1000 + HazMat + shipping charges, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter as price of 22LR has gone down from $50/500 shipped towards $30/500 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...t-shipped-pricing.902560/page-9#post-12405553

And as requested, we are once again shifting gears like in previous component shortage cycles, to embrace the approaching bottom of the cycle to restock/stock up as prices fall and inventory of popular items remain "in stock" longer than 15-20 minutes.

To reduce noisy chatter and maintain focus on what's available/for sale, will keep "Not a Discussion Thread, Link Required" disclaimer.

NOTE/TIP: For those new to component shortages or caught with pants down during current shortage, it is something that occurs regularly and I have seen several during the past 30 years of reloading.

If you plan on reloading into the future years/decades, following are some "best practices" to optimize savings and better ways to stock up enough to ride out the next component shortage (And believe me, it WILL happen again):
  • Maintain a monthly budget to fund component purchases
  • Annual tax refund is a good source of seed money to start the budget fund and some members have used overtime/pay increase/promotion/yard sales proceeds to add to the fund
  • Few members have gotten a second job to add to the fund
  • Start out stocking for 3-5 year supply, then 5-7 years, then 10+ years to ride out even longer shortage cycles
  • Buy/stock up when inventories are plenty and prices are low
  • Many manufacturers/vendors offer significant sales during Black Friday and various holidays
  • Some manufacturers/vendors offer cosmetic "seconds/blems" component bullets at significant discount that won't affect performance
  • Some manufacturers/vendors offer "pulled/demilled" component bullets at significant discount that will affect performance but acceptable for cheap range blasting ammo
  • Some manufacturers/vendors like RMR/MBC offer 5% THR discount (PM/ask a member for code)
  • Some manufacturers/vendors like RMR/MBC offer increasing discount levels for higher quantity purchases (Ask vendor/12,000+ for MBC)
  • Some manufacturers/vendors like RMR/MBC offer military/police/first responder/etc. discounts (Ask vendor)
  • Some manufacturers/vendors like RMR offer specials/promotions/sales by email and/or announce through social media/Facebook (Ask vendor/subscribe)
  • Bullets/projectiles and brass have the longest of shelf life and immune from temperature extremes of storage but can corrode/tarnish (Dry tumbling plated/jacketed bullets and brass in walnut/corn cob media treated with NuFinish/liquid polish will prevent tarnishing of surface for years from residual polymer on surface)
  • Primers have shelf life of decades
  • Powders are affected by several storage conditions and should be rotated out FIFO (First in, First out) and replaced regularly - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-and-discussions.778197/page-11#post-11672858
  • Forming local group buys is a good way to spread HazMat/Shipping charges to where it becomes negligible - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?forums/group-buys-deals-contests.43/

Adding Fiocchi SP primers for $91.31/1000 shipped. I have used nickel plated Fiocchi SP primers and while metric sizing takes a little bit more effort to seat in primer pockets, performance wise, they have been very consistent and produced smaller groups to the point where I specifically used them for THR test load development/myth busting threads for years.
