I've been thinking about buying one of these as a starter kit (mag + mag catch) for my carry 43x.
Any opinions on reliability or other long term usage experience with this set up would be appreciated. I kind of like the idea of 15+1 round capacity.

I have a 48 and a 43X, son carries the 48 with the Sheild Arms Mag release and 15 rnd mags. They work together very well and I have 0 complaints.

I kept the 43X i carry as stock 10 rnd glock mags so it's lighter to CCW but would not hesitate to upgrade it to the Sheild Arms accessories.

Get it, you wont be sorry. Best luck!

Once I was confident the Shield S15 mag was good to go, I only use them for carry. Like almost every mag, I load down down by one (14 rounds in a 15 round magazine).

I mainly use the Glock 10 round mags for range work.

I’m hard on my training mags and more gentle on my carry mags as a rule. Not that I don’t have confidence in them to take abuse, I do. But regardless if OEM or aftermarket, mags designated as carry or home defense are treated much better than the typical beating my range mags take.

I generally follow Larry Vickers advice on magazines:

Thanks for the advise and reviews. I've got the starter combo on order,I'll up the number more if I like the set up. I have a 43x and 48,so this might end up getting expensive, with some lonely polymer mags in the draw.

Based on my personal experience with an older G48 and Gen1 S15 mags, I would use them for practice but carry OEM only. Just as a note, the SA steel mag catch is a must, they no longer offer the aluminum versions (for good reason, they wore badly very quick)

I know Glocks have plastic mag releases designed hold and release plastic mags. Loading and unloading and shooting Glocks with metal mags will wear down the mag release. Shooting will do it due to the internal vibrations that happen every time that pistol goes bang.

I carry my 43X with Shields loaded to 15, and have 4 of them (S1 and S2). Never a hiccup. I keep my 5 or 6 Glock mags for the range. I put and aluminum mag catch it as it was all that was available at the time...will have to inspect it for any significant wear. Over 5500 rounds at this point.

Unfortunately I am one of those whose adoption of the S15 mags didn't work out. I ordered the three mag and mag release pack. Testing at the range went great with between 200-300 rounds fired without a hitch. When it came time for my LEOSA qualification I had 5 (or 6) feed malfunctions in the 50 round course of fire with my G48. I went home and threw them in the trash can. I hope yours works well for you.
