A couple of years ago I installed a Vortex Venom on a Gen 5 Glock 26. I had the slide cut by a local gunsmith and the Venom mounts directly on the slide. The red dot sight has worked well, but I'm thinking of going back to regular night sights and need to replace the Venom with a plate. Can I just use a Glock MOS plate or is there something different I'd need to use?

Since your slide is milled specifically for the red dot, I don't think that an MOS plate will help you. In your case you would likely either need to have a plate made specifically to fit your cut or just buy a new slide.

If you go the new slide route you could always sell your existing slide and red dot to try and offset the cost.

I believe your screw hole pattern will be different. The cover plate has the holes in one place to hold it on and mount the base plate. The base plate has holes to hold it to the slide (using the cover plate holes I think) and a second set of holes to mount the sight to the base plate. So theoretically your holes would wouldn't line up with a standard Glock cover plate.

Not sure but the Glock cover plate might stand proud of the cut also.

If that is the case I would think you could take the cover plate and slide into the gunsmith and have the new holes added.

Better off to just post an ad to exchange someone for an unmilled G26 straight across. I’m sure someone out there would do the trade.

I gambled $20 and bought the OEM plate kit from Glock, which came today. I don't have much time today to try it but was able to take a quick look. Plate 1 is a little long but holes line up, so it may work if I take a little off one end of the plate with a dremmel tool. I won't take a dremmel to the slide itself so if it doesn't work I'm only out $20 and can put the sight back on.

This is why I only mount to red dots to MOS models. No MOS, no mill because of the lack of plate options should I ever want to go back or sell the gun. Not everyone wants a red dot on every handgun, contrary to what's being said by a limited few online that like to believe in that mantra narrative.

Plus I wouldn't want to pay for the mill either, use that money instead to buy another slide or save for later and buy an already optics ready handgun.

The problem with the MOS system is it puts one’s red dot at a higher plane. One wants to get the dot as low as possible for best results. The 3/32-1/8” difference in height makes a big enough difference for me at least to warrant the extra cost. YMMV

I did the opposite of what you're trying to do with a G43. I sold the non-milled slide and brought a milled slide from Brownells, and used my slide parts in the new slide. I think I was out about $30 between selling/buying.

I tried taking a little off the plate with my Dremmel. It was worth a try but it looks like what you'd expect when someone who doesn't do this kind of work for a living takes a Dremmel to something. I'll take a look at ordering a new slide.
