The rubber stocks were fine but wouldn’t fit a HKS speedloader. Zeta6 loader works fine. I wanted some rosewood on there so I found some new fleur de lis boot grips on an auction site and got them for under 60.00. I’m beyond happy with the fit n finish of the panels. Now my pocket gun dreams have come true.

Btw I called altamont to order these and they said they are out of stock and have no foreseeable timeline on more production

If I buy altamont I buy them off ebay or other third party websites because the one time I dealt with them directly was a nightmare. I placed an order on their website, they charged me, then 1 month goes by. I contact them, they say they are waiting for material, should be 2 more weeks. After more 3 weeks, they send me an email saying it will be another month or longer due to circumstances beyond their control but they would send me some alternate grips which were a style I didn't want. I said no thank you just issue me a refund, took them another 2 weeks to give me back my money.

They do make very nice grips though.

I will remember that story thanks for the heads up.

That happened to me me twice but to their credit, they sent me an email and even offered a refund if the wait time was too long. I’ve also ordered from Marschal Grips in Budapest Hungary. It takes four months to get your grips and he doesn’t answer emails. But he does provide a way to see the progress of your order. In this day of instant everything we must relearn patience as well as following up on slow orders.

They look nice, I hope they shoot well. I have not had good luck with Altamont, good looking but sharp and painful In several applications. They come factory on some S&W revolvers, my 629 Talo was one of them. They still have blood on them. Not knowing that is where S&W got them from I ordered a replacement with a different style same problem. Edges are just sharp and not well cut although they look great. Let’s hope they worked out the issues. Sort of why you see them on the cheap on Ebay and hear about complaints from their customer service. They are busy! My 638 has a similar grip that works well. These were Ebay $30 a few years ago. Took some fitting but worked out well. 29B15622-28F0-4A33-8943-FA9F33B368DF.jpeg

The only concern I have is the factory rubbers were quite sticky in a good way. These are smooth and I hope the shooting goes well. I would hate to have to add a little grip tape to front and back straps on this gun. Although I don’t think it would look terrible. This gun is going to be dedicated to wadcutter use so nothing too spicy!

Great choice on the Model 638! Picked up one on sale some years back to be a lighter weight option to my Model 649.

Your Altamont grips look really nice but I like the feel of the factory rubber grips, as well as the "old school" set-up I have with the factory grips and a Tyler T-Grip Adapter to fill in the space behind the trigger guard.

Those look great!

I have added Altamont grips to my single six .22 and my Wrangler. I picked them up on a Black Friday sale for 19 bucks a set on their website a couple years back. Best 40 bucks I have spent in quite a while. :)

But, personally all of my hard-kickers, and small .38’s, wear synthetic grips. I love the look of wood more than anything else, but my palms don’t love the feel. :(

Stay safe.

I love the wood grips but they pound my thumb joint where it meets the hand. I use the stock rubber grips and I used a dremel to remove enough material to make clearance for a speed loader.

I've had mixed experiences with Altamont. I've bought a number of their grips over a number of years. They have nice designs that when executed well are a bargain. But I've had to return several for replacement because of basic defects. They are nice people and cheerfully provide no cost support, but it is irritating waiting for an order and finding the delivered product was defective in ways that any quick inspection would reveal. And then waiting again for replacements. That said, when they get it right, the grips are very nice and don't cost a fortune.

That’s the plan if these don’t work out

I had some gorgeous Altamont grips on a Beretta 84 Cheetah. I could barely stop staring at them. Unfortunately they added a lot of meat in the form of palm swells, and completely changed the perfect feel of a Beretta Cheetah for my personal taste. I do not consider that to be the fault of Altamont, though. I sold them to a happy customer on Gunbroker. Also, there was a several week delay when I ordered them a few years ago, but they told me about it right after I paid for the grips online. They gave me the option to cancel the order but I had already waited a couple years before deciding to buy them, so another few weeks was not a problem.

As someone mentioned above, Denis Marschal of Marschal grips in Hungary does amazing work. I waited 11 months for my order a few years ago. I never once complained, which apparently he appreciated as he gave me another pair of grips for a different gun for free.

Here’s a picture of those luscious Altamont grips:

Best set of Altamont grips I ever had were some grey finger-groove combat grips with the S&W gold medallions on a 2.5" Model 66. Not sure what the process for making their laminate grips are, but the company asks custom carved grip prices for basically shiny plywood. And the wait time if you order directly from the company is ridiculous. Like @unclenunzie, I've had mixed experiences with this company. I like the looks of some of their products, but given the price point, I'd rather stick with Ahrends or Spegel. Admittedly, though, I am a sucker for the inlaid rampant colt...

Currently, the only set I have is on one of my 2020 Pythons.

I'm not a Colt guy, but everything about that picture is just right.
