what are the origins of the Henry Design?
That's like saying a Browning X bolt is based on the Mauser 98. There are a lot of similarities, the profile looks similar at a distance. But they are different. I think their centerfire rifles are closer in looks anyway to the original Henry.
I am sure the Henry's are Marlin 336 copies in the action set up. One big difference is the hammer and trigger on the Henry. There is no half cock. The Henry uses a sliding bar that is trigger raised so it can hit the firing pin. The trigger has to be pulled for the bar to rise just like other transfer bar systems. And no cross bolt safety.
On the pistol caliber guns I really can't say because I have never had one to look at. They look to have a small round bolt but they don't seem to be Marlin 1894 copies. At least as far as I can tell.
And the Henry Long Rangers look to be a Browning BLR copy right down to the rack and pinion operated bolt. I guess if Henry is going to copy at least they picked top notch designs to do it with.
The new Rossi R95 I just bought is a direct Marlin copy with a couple of well thought out changes. If it will ever stop raining around here and dry up a little I can go do some shooting. I have the Rossi and a new Savage Axis in 243 I want to test. But right now its a mud hole everywhere you go. We just got another big rain this morning and more coming for the weekend. Thats Okay by me. I never complain about rain. By July we will be praying for rain. And not getting it.
I guess I was thinking how the Glock design has been copied since the patent ran out. Or loosely based anyhow. The new SW and Henry's I thought looked like the Marlin Receiver. That's like saying a Browning X bolt is based on the Mauser 98.
