American Reloading

Yes they are a legit company, but being in the business of selling demil and blem products you do have some occasional headaches with mixed lots on cases/projectiles. Primers and powders have been problem free, though as others have noted their powders have limited load data especially so if you get their pull-downs. But either way that certainly hasn't stopped me from continuing to order from them. Had a heavy box from them arrive just yesterday morning and I'm sure more will in the future too.

I think that’s the best assessment I’ve read so far. Certainly the most informative.

I ordered 6K Fiocchi small pistol primers from them the other day.

It was posted in the Where are there thread.

As @Jim Watson posted, $58 per K to your door is good these days.
$58 per K to Door! WOW!

let me check them out, Fiocchi had become
one of my favorite primers. Especially when you seat them correctly

Mine is sig required as well, not unusual, don't know about the Fedex driver. The UPS drive could care less about a signature or where they leave a package.
Ditto. If I’m lucky he tosses it over the fence before breaking for the turn and it lands in the shade. Less lucky he leaves it under the big metal mailbox on the highway. Signature? Ain’t nobody got time for that. 🤣

I used to have a similar problem with MidSouthShootersSupply ... allowing orders for stuff they didn't have. I had written a program back in 2009 to search for primers. When they would pop up at MidSouth, I would place an order and it would take my payment and all. The problem was, when they were entering newly arrived inventory, their system would immediately post it to the website ... even if there were backorders in place. They would cancel my order a week later and let me know that they didn't really have them for sale because they had to fill backorders. A defect in their systems that I hope they've corrected by now.

I’ve never had that problem with them and I certainly hope I don’t with today’s purchase. I’m a regular purchaser albeit not high dollars.

Pulldown Powder at American Reloading

I bought two 8-pound jugs.

That’s 16 pounds for $420
($26.25 per pound)

Free shipping, no hazmat, no tax.

Two powders in stock.
These are both BALL powders, and are fairly slow.
Very good for 30-06.
Probably OK for .308 – but slow - if you are shooting 200 yards.
Might be OK – but slow - for 5.56 if you are shooting 200 yards.

MP 570 (similar to Accurate Arms 2700)

MP 625 (similar Ramshot Hunter)

Why buy this stuff?

Because it makes me a little queasy to hear that big “SWOOOOSH!!!” sound of my TAC, and my 4895, and my Varget, and my 2520 filling a 30-06 case.
I don’t mind using a slow powder for 5.56 either if I’m just shooting offhand or sitting. The SR target is a BIG TARGET if you point the rifle properly.

But the bigger reason is the NITROCELLULOSE CRISIS.

If you don’t know about the NITROCELLULOSE CRISIS, you better pay some attention.
Or maybe you have noticed that the price of all your “regular” powder has doubled in the last month.
Or maybe you never shoot your guns, so this doesn’t matter. To you.

https://blog.galleryofguns.com/post/the-gunpowder-shortage-of-2024-an-update

Powder Valley just this week cancelled all existing customer orders for Alliant powders.
That’s all the “Reloder” series, and all the “Dot” series, and also “Unique” and “AR-Comp”

I’ll get around to testing American Reloading MP-series powders at some point, and I’ll post my results.
But I can tell you now you pretty much are gonna need to run a FULL CASE if you use these powders for 5.56 or .308.
A full case will be safe with 30-06, but a full case may be a bit “brisk.”

Don’t say nobody gave you a chance to stock up on some alternative powder at affordable prices before you pay $75/pound for Varget and such.

Here’s a burn-rate comparison that gives you an idea of the “speed” of these powders.

Remember, MP-570 is similar to Accurate Arms 2700, and MP-625 is similar to Ramshot Hunter.

These powders will probably do OK in your 6.5 ManBun too if you aren’t trying to shoot 2900 yards.

I'm gonna say you might not get reliable cycling with the MP-570 in a 5.56 AR unless you use a lighter recoil spring.

A full case should make a decent amount of gas. Question is, will it make it IN TIME to run the bolt.

That will be interesting to test.

I have a full set of springs from light-to-heavy.
The "standard" carbine buffer weighs 3.1 ounces. I don't know if its possible to lighten the buffer.

Yeah, but you have to understand ... my program would scan their website every 60 seconds. I would have an order in within 3 minutes of it showing on the website. That type of automation can expose some holes in a dealer's processes.

Pulldown Powder at American Reloading
Fyi the Midwest powders are bulk powders normally sold in large volumes to commercial ammunition manufacturers. However unlike the commercial loaders American Reloading doesn't do any load development so what you get is approximate burn rate. You can safely get a smaller container to try out and likely be able to buy that powder again in the future. Best practice with these types of powders is to expect some lot to lot variation so each new order should get a new ladder to check pressures though they should generally be close.

They do have pulldown powder every so often and it's considerably cheaper than the MP products. It's usually labeled as something like "30-06 powder #1" or simply "flake shotgun powder" with just 1 or 2 loads listed on the label which is nothing other the the average charge weight and nominal bullet weight/velocity for the ammo from which it was pulled. I've been pretty happy with the pull down powders so far by starting plenty low and working up. Since each offering is truly unique, once a lot is sold out that's it so if you decide to go this route roll the dice and get a bunch.

Fiocchi primers have arrived. I am fatigued from cutting into the heavily taped overpack (so labeled) box, and digging out the bubble wrap to see actual Fiocchi boxes of primers. Entirely different from the sloppy packaging I got from Academy.

The long narrow 150 shot trays are... interesting. I will have to see if my flip tray will catch them all at once.

The driver DID wait for a signature. I wonder what he thought about the orange "1.4 EXPLOSIVE" label and red striped "Hazardous materials shipping papers enclosed" pouch.

HEY
I just noticed “Made in Italy.”
I have read that they had a US primer line. If so, must be using them all in house.

I hate the way they use tape...I was hoping they had improved their practice.

The last time I ordered from they, they taped the two 5k boxes of Ginex SPP together. Cutting them apart without cutting into the boxes was very irritating ...they are packed in 100-ct sleeves inside the boxes

Better than Academy, with primer boxes rattling around inside a shipping carton with no packing, not even a piece of tape holding the boxes shut. Primers loose in the carton and as a string of breadcrumbs back down the road.

Interesting. I will note my payment has already been processed so I'm thinking I'm in good shape.
