I've heard about how 5 and 10% OC spray is supposed to be great, but how about 2%? I was at a Gander Mountain and they had Eliminator brand spray in a large cannister for $6.99 which sounds like a great deal. I looked on the internet to see what was said about it, but could only find 5 and 10% OC of that brand. Has anyone else bought this stuff and (ouch!) TRIED it?

A Sheriff's deputy recommended Fox 5.3 spray to me. I bought 2 oz cans for my immediate family and even gave away keychain units to nieces last Christmas. Spray tabasco -- what more could you want?

you can't go wrong with Fox. it's the only spray that we carry on-duty. More importantly, I trust this stuff with my wife to carry as well, (in addition to the Smith bodyguard she carries)

I understand the Fox stuff is pretty good, but I've never tried it.

Depending on what you're looking for, and how small it has to be, you might consider some of the OC bear sprays out there. They tend to be bigger, like a longer, thinner can of soda, but they're also very nasty and are more likely to spray a fog than a stream.

SHU Vs. %OC

As said above, Fox is probably the best out there. And that is based on personal experience. When it come to pepper spray, don't interpret the higher percent of oleoresin capsicum guide you. What is more important is the amount of Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The Fox is around 5.3 million vs. 2 million-ish for the rest. As far as fog vs. stream, that's up to your personal decision. Not bad for spicing up your meal at Luby's either.

I've only carried two pepper sprays: Fox and the cheap stuff from cheaper than dirt by Dragon Martial Arts. In that time, I have accidentally sprayed my skin with both of them. I can say that without a doubt, the cheap stuff from Cheaper than Dirt hurt far worse than Fox.
