Greeting's All-

A S&W factory rep was in house today with a brand new salesmans demo
package that included one that might just be a hit with revolver geeks.

They will re-introduce a mdoel 21 at the 2005 S&W shot show. The gun
I inspected was a six-shot, 4" barrel, fluted cylinder, blue steel .44 SPL;
built on Smiths N-round butt frame. It had the old style blade type front
sight, with a square notch rear; combat trigger and hammer. And had
the words "Thunder Ranch" inscribed on the side plate. It is too come
in a wooden (?) presentation type box; with a MSRP of $958.

I saw a discussion where a lot of people were criticizing that revolver, claiming that it was too garish and that the logo was too glaring and oversize, for which they blamed S&W. Of course, S&W only put on what the Thunder Ranch people wanted.

The gun might be a good buy if one likes the caliber and all, but it is worth noting that special order guns that cost big bucks over the price of the standard model very seldom hold their value and can usually be bought a year or so later for the same or less than the equivalent standard model. Of course, in this case there really is no current standard model (the 696 is closest) so the gun might sell on the basis of nostalgia to people who couldn't care less about the logo. This also might be a feeler to see just what interest there might be in reviving the Model 21.

wonder where this should put the price of my real honest to G-d Model 21, you know the one with forged steel parts (no MIM) fitted by skilled workers who took pride in their work? :rolleyes:
 
Considering that they only made 1200 of the Real M-21 because nobody cared when it was in the catalog, pretty high. Funny how that works, isn't it? A flop then a rarity now.

What am I missing here. This has been discussed to death on the Smith sites for months. 3000 to be made, I think. Probably all with be sold before any serious number are delivered. Deliveries have just started.
 
That hot news has been beat to death for several months now. Clint Smith joined the discussion on the S&W forum after magazine article came out of him disliking people talking bad about the revolver. It was a rather lively thread running.
 
There is a very large "locked" thread over on th S&W Forum on this subject. Clint Smith himself and a couple other big names had many responses to forum members complaints and veiws on the weapon and Clint's words he used to describe people who didn't dig or get the concept or very ulgly out of place gold T.R. logo on the side plate. Most desribed it as a "bill board". I think Clint called somebody a "turd sucker" alot of people took it personal and went off on him, S&W and the mag. that he writes for. I don't like the looks of the logo, price or caliber. The weapon has a nice look to it but I woold like it in 357 and about $350 cheaper! Go oover and read the thread. Be good...
 
Looks notwithstanding, it's a start. Hopefully the TR21 will be the first of many soon to come resurrections of the old N frame guns. I am sure that Smith will get at least one of them "right". I would like new Model 22s, 24s, 26s (well, the Mtn Guns are kinda like 26s) and of course, the 27s and 28s.

Thanks to Clint Smith for getting S&W to make this gun.
 
There's a big thread somewere here about it too. Search for "turd sucker" -- don't imagine the term shows up in that many posts. More common search terms would include: billboard, garish, and overpriced.

They look good to me, except for the oversized logo and the keyhole.

You mean pinned & recessed, with the firing pin mounted on the hammer, no MIM parts, and no internal lock?

Don't hold your breath.

If S&W would make them again, I bet they would sell every one of them. Probably before they even left the factory!

I wish S&W would reissue a blued 3" square butt P&R model 27, or a blued 5" square butt P&R model 29.

Some of todays guns are really super, but they are not classy like guns of old. :(
 
I'm not even a S&W person and know that this "HOT S&W NEWS-" is old news. More or less, this is a contract edition between Clint and S&W. Been done before with other manufacturers. If they brought back a plain-jane M21, it would likely do quite well. Maybe this'll pave the way.

I think that's asking for too much at this point. Although we can probably get cardboard boxes back. I just want plain jane, blued shooting wheelies at better prices. Maybe pay a bit more for a 27 if it has the real checkering.
 
One guy morphed it into The "T**ds***er Special "Internet Whiner's" Model.
