Here we go again.

Just like the famous "AT&T is Anti-Gun" myth, now we have one about Amazon.com.

The "alert" making the rounds on the net is that Amazon.com has "joined forces" with the Million Mom March and is contributing to that anti-gun group.

Folks, please do the research.

This is just the standard amazon.com affilate program where the company or organization which links to amazon.com gets a 5% commission on book sales it sends to amazon.com.

This is not a special deal for the Million Mom March. It's available to me, to you, to the NRA, to GOA, etc.

We have enough legitimate anti-gun groups without making up another one.

This kind of knee-jerk reaction just makes us look dumb. Don't buy into it.

Yeah, someone forwarded an alert from the "US Sportsmen's Alliance" to me containing this rumor. I checked both Amazon's and the Million Mommie's websites and found no reference to Amazon "joining" with the MMM. The Amazon link on the MMM site is an affiliate link.

Among other organizations which I've seen with an Amazon affiliate link is JPFO.

Spreading rumors like this one does our cause no good whatsoever.

Dang- I already got all worked up... at least I didn't get around to sending it yet... Let's all read along, shall we. There may be good stuff in there for the future...(has some good snippets from everywhere)

Mr. Bezos:

I recently learned of your company’s support of the so-called Million Mom March. I must tell you how much this disappoints me. I shop online at Amazon.com, as do many people I know. I would not shop there if you supported a group that was attempting to restrict my rights as enumerated in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights nor will I shop there when your company has chosen to support a group that by any means available would attempt to restrict the Second Amendment. If this is indeed the case, I will actively urge everyone I come in contact with to shop elsewhere.

I would not expect you to assist me financially if I were to start a company and use the proceeds obtained by the sale of merchandise to help fund an organization that wanted to restrict your rights under the First Amendment allowing you to distribute the literature you wanted. After all, no one should be allowed to possess even one copy of “Cross Your Fingers, Spit in Your Hat†so we should force our representatives to legislate you out of business, right? It’s my diversity or else, right?

I wish I could express to you the full measure of disappointment I feel when those who have benefited most from America and it’s guarantees of civil liberties, decide that they should now change that rules for those that will come after them. Such hypocrisy from those who lie about membership numbers and claim to represent the majority while insulting other mothers who choose to truly educate their children about the realities of the world.

I am truly happy we live in a country where you are free to do as you choose. However, we would not if a fledgling nation were once deprived the use of arms. I do hope you will reconsider your decision to assist those that would so drastically alter the basic human right of self-defense as to institute a system where the weak and elderly are at the mercy of the strong, the lone are at the mercy of the gang. They want to give violent criminals a government guarantee that the citizens are disarmed. I am sorry, but that is unacceptable. Better we should require every citizen be armed.

Sincerely,

Any critiques? I'm trying to polish up the perfect "Thanks for undermining the US Constitution" kind of letter....Pluck a bit fom here - a bit from there ... put in a paragraph that is relevant to the recipient.. and off it goes.
Thanks for the derailment on this one... glad I have a place to come check this stuff out first.

Isn't the founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeffrey Bezos, a major anti-gun guy?

Aren't they all?

Find me a Fortune 500 company that was founded by an NRA member and I'll find you the missing portion of the Rosetta Stone.

Amazon, like all of the really smart companies, is pro-profit.

I dream one day of traveling to large protests and selling protest signs to both sides. The perfect business!
