Looked at one today, mis-matched #s VG bore, blue on action and barrel about 90% Stock metal is a mish-mash and finish is about 30%.... front barrel band even has nazi eagle on it, but nothing else does. The stock was "refinished" by a previous owner and to be generous, I'd say he did a "fair" job of it. Import stamps on the barrel... etc.

Turning this into a "custom" would be financially foolish, but it might be nice for a "plinker" sorta thing.

He's asking $150??

If it's a straight M24 and not a 24/47, it'd certainly be a good price. 24/47s are pretty commonly available and could probably be had for a tad less.

Not a bad price either way, they are certainly good plinkers, and ammo's dead cheap. If you've seen the rifle and like it, grab it.

I'd pay that. Have you checked the headspace on it yet?

No and I have no x57 headspace gauges so that's not a possibility. The bore is in really good shape but the mis-matched bolt is always a headspace concern. One would hope that the arsenal that replaced the bolt did indeed check it.

The owner of the gun is any elderly man whos says he's had it several years but has not fired it as he can't get to the range very often and "Wal-Mart" doesn't have any bullets for it.... LOL

He says he bought it because he was born in 1924 and the the rifle was made then.... a nostalgia thing. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's a model number and not a date of manufacture...

I have not bought a Mauser rifle recently, but the refinishing usually lowers the value considerably. The M24 was generally made in Czechoslovakia on the old DWM tools that the Czecs received as reparations. In 1924 they devised a new model in a carbine length with straight bolt and long handguard. This rifle was manufactured and exported in large numbers in different calibers.

I would not be so concerned about mismatched numbers. All my Mausers headspace well with the bolts interchanged. Just not as smoothly.

Because of the condition and refinishing, I would not go over $100. If you get it, take the bolt apart, old grease slows the firing pin down over the time.

Here's a commercial sale, to get an idea of pricing. Note that the price is in CA dollars - multiply by .85 to get US dollars.

The Marstar site has a decent Yugo backgrounder, if anyone's interested in the variants of the Model 24.
