K-31 or K98k?? You Decide!

Only downside to a K31 is that ammo is more expensive. But, think of Swiss GP-11 as match ammo. Its VERY accurate stuff and the guns are very accurate as well. On top of that, they are true things of beauty.

The German K98s don't seem to be as well cared for and most of the 8mm ammo from WWII was corrosive, so the barrels might not be as nice as the Swiss ones. AFAIK any GP-11 ammo that would have been shot in a K31 was not corrosive.

If the tag doesn't matter to you, get a handpicked walnut stock. The walnut stocks are just nicer looking than the beech ones. Samco is a good place to deal with. I've ordered things from the and have never had a problem. Everything arrived intact, on time and as ordered.

If it only had a decent safety.

Huh? As an owner of both a Mauser (although mine is a 48 yugo) and a K31, I much prefer the ring safety on the K31. Oddly, I like the Mosin safety for the same reason: both can be operated in complete silence. The Mauser safety is a bit loud, and requires a ton of force, as the firing pin needs to be drawn back slightly when changing safety positions. Also the K31 safety can be partially engaged, basically making it a 3-position.

Every Mauser and Springfield I've ever owned had a safety that could be disengaged without making noise, and without taking the hand from the wrist of the stock. As an added bonus, when the safety is pushed off, it leaves the hand in firing position -- ready for a fast shot.

K31 - More accurate
Both 7.5 swiss and 8mm surplus are drying up.
I have 2 - K31's a Yugo M48A and a Rusian capture K98
All good rifles but the K31's are much more accurate and much nicer rifles.
