I am new to reloading and would like a recipe for 9MM rounds to fire from my Hi-Point C-9 9MM. I will be using 100 Grain cast bullets, CCI 500 small pistol primers and Winchester Ball Powder smokeless propellant 231.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me.

Try calling beemiller

Warthogga10,

I have talked to the folks that make the hi-point C9. There is a fellow named Jim I talked to last time and he had some recommendations on ammo for that pistol. I would look up Beemiller's number and give them a call and see what they recommend. If you need the number I can dig it out. It should be in your manual leaflet you got with your hi-point.

my current Hi Point Recipe

first off - for a cheap pistol, i love the Hi Point 9mm. i bought one off a friend of mine who needed some quick cash. i scoffed at the price but fell in love once i tried it out. it is a down and dirty pistol and i have ran 2000 rounds through mine without a hitch. funny, i have ran more ammo through the pistol than what i paid for it.

i just got into reloading, so i am no expert. i just ran 100 rounds of this batch last night - the first 50 i loaded ran through my hi point with no problems:

124 gr Hornady HP/XTP Bullets

CCI small pistol primers

once shot Federal Brass (rounds i purchase so i know they have been fired once)

Hodgon Powder HP-38
4.6 grain load. (4.8 is listed as max for this grain of bullet)

and a nice light crimp to finish them off. so far i have shot about 60 rounds of this recipe through my Hi Point - as accurate as any factory load and no feed problems.

good luck - shoot safe.

I reload for a Hi Point 995 carbine that is +P+ compatible.

Winchester 115 gr. JHP
Accurate #2 @ 5.1 gr.
Winchester SP primers. I HATE CCI PRIMERS! Too many misfires and squibs in both rifle and BP.

Accurate #2 has a recommended range of 4.7 grains to 5.2 grains for 115 grain JHP and FMJ bullets.

Shot a bunch today

I loaded up 350 rounds on Saturday and shot them off today with no problems!

I used 4.3 grains of Winchester 231 powder and a 100 grain cast bullet and only had 2 mis-feeds with my C9 Hi-Point.

CCI Primers

my luck has been good so far - granted i am a newb to reloading. once these CCI's run out, i am going to try a name brand like Remington or Winchester.

i have read a lot of pro's con's on reloading 9mm as far as price and accuracy. since this is my first experience in reloading, i enjoy it (especially since everything works -- goes bang).

i have mentioned HiPoints in other shooting forums and usually get laughed out of the post. i have a few handguns, (a Sig226 in 40 cal.) for some reason i like the $100 plinker to bang off rounds with. one of these days i want to get one of those carbines - since i live 20 miles from the factory in Mansfield, Ohio - i should get good product support.

Major Beer: Actually, there are a lot of Hi-Point owners here, me included. I don't see it being a problem.

As for CCI primers, my biggest complaint, I admit, is their BP #11 primers. I have a Hawken .54 percussion and have a 1 in 7 success rate. It seems that the only primer my Hawken likes is the CVA Hotflash. One prob. No one around here carries them. Oh well.

However, my luck with their SP primers hasn't been much better. I picked up 1K and found enough bad primers to fill almost 2 trays. Admittedly, It was all from the same lot number and someone at CCI may have had a bad day, but it soured my view ever since.

Just my opinion.

I have been using cast 124G Penn bullets with 5.5G of Unique in my 995 Carbine and C9. Also 124G Ranier Plated bullets with 5.5G of Unique.

I don't have any pistol targets, but this was with the rifle at 25 yards sighting in the scope.

The ONLY problems I have had with loading for the C9 is OAL and light loads. I found that making the OAL too short gave me some ramp problems. For this reason, I would question the 100gr slug you are planning to use. I also found that loading too light (wimpy) caused stove piping. If I stick to standard loads as used for any other of my 9MMs, the C9 just keeps asking for more. :D
