You should probably call up Camp Perry. Technically it is a military installation and concealed carry isn't allowed on a military base.

Off base, I usually carry, and I did before they even allowed it. On base, I don't at all. There's no need to CCW on base since you and everyone else is carrying a rifle. Really....EVERYONE has a rifle. You will stand in line for breakfast (if you eat at the cafeteria) with a rifle on your shoulder, or with others in that state. Consider Camp Perry to be the nirvana of gun ownership freedom. There are SO many rifles that it becomes passe' and it's odd to you when you go back home and everyone looks "naked."

Lasy year when you entered the gate they handed you a flyer that stated the laws for CCW and the bottom line was it is a military base and NO you can not carry period.
Thats a good way to explain it Steve as every body has a rifle.

I am not a lawyer, nether am I Camp Perry Law Enforcement. In fact, I doubt anyone participating on this forum IS. None of us could give you the real facts if you NEED them so I'd suggest a call to the Camp Perry LE or Security office.

Short of that, you can hear my further comments:
If you are staying in a local hotel, there is a good chance that the rooms are not very secure. You don't need your pistol walking around Camp Perry. If the room isn't secure and you don't need the gun on or with you at Perry, where would YOU put it? I know where I put it, and I never thought twice about it and never had a problem. I will do the same upon my return to Perry next year. I'm sure you're a big boy or girl and can glean the info from this that is pertinent.

The reason for the flyer at the gate was to make sure everyone understood that in no way did any of the laws that were passed last year in ohio were any good on the base. They are not.
I do not believe anyplace it says you can not have a pistol during the matches but they do flat say NO CCW or brandishing a weapon.
With all the pistol matches held there I do not think they really care if you have one as long as it is locked up.

Now that I have read Taliv's reply I realize that there were two ways to interpret my post. Now that you have read Jon's post you can read mine again and maybe get the idea that I was after.

IOW, keep it locked, out of sight, and unmentioned and you should be a-ok. Out of sight, out of mind.

For the last couple years, I have carried a gun with me on my trip to Perry.

They do have pistol matches, so handguns are not a banned item. Only loaded guns. Having a loaded gun anywhere but on the firing line can get you expelled from the grounds.

For the trip this year, I brought my Glock 17 with three 17 round magazines. My gun was not loaded when I entered the gate, so it was a non issue. They only asked me if I had any "loaded" gun, since it wasn't loaded, I was ok.
