I am fairly familiar with .22 pistols and have owned quite a few. However, this is a Call Out for some ideas.

I want to purchase a high quality, long lasting, .22 pistol with about a 4 to 6 inch barrel and in a general design of the PPK with hopefully that type of simple trigger guard take down or one equally simple. In other words Ruger is not a contender because of style and takedown difficulty.

I want great accuracy. It can be a new piece but likely will be something from the last 65 years. I am hoping to keep the price below $450.

I have a Daewoo, Model 41 and some High Standards. I want the sleeker cooler looking style of the PP, such as my Daewoo, but far more accurate than my Daewoo.

The Walther PP series of any kind is out because of the high unreliability due to the misallignment of the magazine to the chamber which causes too many failures to load while the cartridge is trying to jump up into the chamber each time from the magazine. I have had dozens and dozens of PPs and PPKs in .22 and I am done trying to make them work... and I doubt I can find or afford a Makarov in .22 which is the FIX of the Walther PP.

Currently, I am thinking, among other thoughts, of an Iver Johnson TP-22 with a custom, longer barrel, gun smith work with changed springs etc. and a competition 5 inch or 5.5 inch barrel replacement.

I would like the looks of such a piece but want to see what other options I have.

Here are the Criteria:
Cartridge straight into the chamber from the magazine
Fixed barrel or accuracy equal to such
All steel for longevity
Very high accuracy and reliability
Under $450
A little smaller, lighter, thinner than a Walther PP if possible.

This one will be a real challenge to keep on the rails... but fun.

Another suggestion for the sig trailside, check CDNN investments. http://www.cdnninvestments.com The basic 4 inch fixed sight model is 299+9.99 S&H. I have been pleased with mine, though I hear that these have been dicontinued and I am not thrilled with the plastic magazine concept.

Avoid the trailside. Too many problems and the discontinuance of the line should be a hint that maybe you should look elsewhere. I have the competition model of the trailside. My trigger guard has developed the infamous crack at the lug where the slide hits it.

Have you checked out some of Beretta's .22s? Not the NEOS but some of their older offerings? I have a 70s thats smooth as butter. Beretta 87 Cheetah? maybe a used one somewhere?

I think you just described the CZ Kadet. Fixed barrel, all steel, lasts a long time. Unfortunately it doesn't meet your thin criteria, but take a look anyway. It's almost identical to the 75, just a different slide.

I too had reliability problems, breakage AND not very good accuracy from the THREE Trailsides I've tried. Man, I really WANTED them to be the answer!!! :cuss:

I like the idea of an old Beretta??? Hmmm gotta do some research. Any ideas on model name or number. Was there an older, smaller, rounder, sleeker Chetah or am I wrong on that?

I want to rent an S&W 22a to see if the accuracy and reliability will suit me! :)

Hmmmm CZ, too heavy by far but fine pistol... I had forgotten, for some reason, about CZ. :)

I am checking these out as you bring them up folks.

I REALLY appreciate the help here! I was sort of fogging over on what to seek out.

Here we go! For Sale on GunsAmerica.com Comments on these please! This is looking like a top contender, IF, the accuracy is great and the reliability near perfect. Comments???

Since you already have a S&W 41 and some High Standards, I'm afraid you've already got some of the (if not the) best .22's in existence! Maybe a BuckMark Bullseye? I'd also like to know more about the Berettas mentioned above.

I have a first run P22 and have never had a malfunction except for after I fire of 500 rounds of wally world blue light special ammo and the thing is caked in ass. I had no idea that they were known as unreliable in some circles, alot of my friends have them and they all love their P22's. (not a PP or PPK)

I got my P22 right when the came out for $260, I love the hell out of it. Gonna buy the Walther supressor for it too.

Daewoo is the size I want... and I love it but it is NOT accurate enough.

I have a couple of Smith and Wesson Model 41s and yes they are accurate but I seek similar accuracy in a smaller package.

The older Berettas LOOK like a good choice to me but I have never shot one or known of anyone who has.

The Walther PP and PPK are totally different from the P22. I have not shot the P22s yet.

Won't try a revolver? I have a little Rossi M511 Sportsman that amazes me with accuracy. It's a J frame sized stainless, adjustable sight, four inch revolver. S&W makes a their kit gun on the same principle. It's more expensive, but not that much more. These kit guns are compact and light, but not quite pocket guns due to 4" barrels. You're not going to get the accuracy out of one of the little snubbies with 2" or less barrel. Sight radius is the problem.

I have an older Bersa model 23 which is an all steel Walther PPK style .22lr. Mine is in satin nickel and it is one of my all time favorite pistols. Mine is not for sale unfortunatly for you.:neener:

If you can find one, get it.

BINGO... That Bersa with the long barrel is EXACTLY what I am looking for!

Is it still made? How much does it cost?

I have seen excellent results and great prices from Bersa in the last few years although I do not have one!

I know they made some of the older Bersa .22lrs with the longer barrel but I have not seen any of the newer Thunders with the long barrel. I also have a standard Bersa Thunder like in the link but with a short barrel. It is lighter because it has the alloy frame. I like that one as well but I really love my Bersa 23 in nickel and all steel.

OH, I just thought of a pistol I had, good shooter, that was small and accurate at least. It'd be better for 1911 types cause it was a single action with a 1911 position safety. It had similar, though smaller, grip angle to a 1911, too. I bought it surplus. I think some Spanish investigative agency was actually ARMED with these things, in .22LR! But, it was an accurate shooter. It was a Star Model F. It had adjustable sights, too. I'm quite sure it's out of production, but might be some used ones about. I paid nearly nothing for it, something like 75 bucks. It got stolen in a burglary of my home.
