Service or Sub-compact? How much accuracy do I lose in that inch of barrel? How much concealability to I gain? I was told it is the grip that is difficult to conceal not the barrel. So would a service be as easy to hide IWB/OWB? ~Nathan

I have owned six XD's and have not once had the urge to buy a sub-compact. They have all been service models. I don't feel they are hard to conceal at all. I also feel that the service model handles a lot better than the sub-compact.

I easily conceal a service XD40 IWB. I don't like the tradeoff of marginally-better concealability for the uncomfortable (for ME) small grip of the sub-compacts.

i carry the service model everyday, i love it and it feels great. i have no complaint! plus it is more to hold on to, compared to the sub-compact!

i've never had much luck from sub compacts but the xd is different... i've shot all three models and i'm just as accurate with the 3" as any of them... and i carry it every day...

In my readings, most people shoot well with the 4 inch service model and it's hit or miss with the 3 inch compact. I have a XD40 and XD9 both in 4 inch.

The Glock 23 and 19 are both smaller than the XD 4" model. If it is compactness you are after, the Glocks are that.

A really good site for xd pistols, and one where this discussion has been hashed out many times is

www.xdtalk.com

It is a wealth of knowledge about all things related to the XD family of firearms

I bought my XD9 Sub-Compact yesterday. I'm sure it is a bit different to shoot than a service model, but the difference is nothing I feel I can't control. As far as concealability goes...granted, I don;t have as much experience as some here, but I would bet that, depending on your clothing choice, it could indeed make a difference.
