Trying to decide whether to get a "long-slide" pistol or a sub-compact. I'm seperating the posts in the event I decide. Both the Glock 26 and the XD-9 sub-compact are very close to what I'm looking for in a S-c. The glock feels a little blockier in the grip and the grip is shorter (a pro for concealment and a con for shooting). The XD has a little shorter barrel but a little longer grip (better for shooting, worse for concealment). Has anyone shot both these little pistols? Any input is appreciated!

My pick is for the Glock 26, better ergonomics for me (no goofy grip safety), and much easier to tailor to your personal tastes. Lots more holster and accessory options as well.

Good luck.

I've shot them both, and like them both. My personal preference is the Glock 27, but I wouldn't feel at all unhappy with the XD sub-compact if I had to carry one. Both are very good guns.

You might have a look at the Steyr S9--about the same size and more ergonomic.

Are they importing the Steyrs again? Been staying away from them due to parts and accesory availability.

I recently switched from a Glock to a SA XD sub. Found that thre SA fit my hand better and had a much nicer trigger. The SA is also easier to come up with high cap mags for.

Yes, they never stopped importing the steyrs...the importership just seems to bounce around from different companies...As far as i know Steyr is in the process of starting up a US distribution home.

Fella's;

I've been looking at sub compacts also. Haven't seen anything I'm going to part with money for though. The critical requirement is for it to be hammer fired. I'd really like to see Kahr build a hammer fired gun, but no go so far.

Oh well, it's my money & I'll damn well keep it till I can get what I want. How else ya gonna force 'em to change?

A hammer fired Sub?
They are out there. Mostly in 1911 patterns, but there are others.
Like revolvers...
Or mouseguns...
My Mini Cougar is almost a Sub with it's small grip and it has a hammer.

I carry a Glock 26 every day, and have for about four years now.

My husband got an XD-9 for Christmas, and has been carrying it since then (yay!)

When he was looking for his carry gun, I urged him to try the G26 first -- so that we could share equipment such as spare magazines, mag pouches, holsters, etc etc. He shot my Glock a lot, but simply never warmed up to it. The first time he picked up the XD-9, he positively raved about that gun, about the way it felt in his hand, about how much better he could shoot it, about the better grip angle compared to the Glock.

Well, hmph.

Me, I still love my G26. It is the perfect size for my hand, I like the grip angle, and I love how concealable it is.

The longer grip of the XD-9 may be better to shoot, but it is much worse for concealment with the rig I use.

The shorter barrel of the XD-9 means that there's just a little less oomph coming out of the end of the gun -- maybe not enough to matter, but if there's going to be a tossup, I want more oomph.

And that grip safety! For crying out loud, what's the deal with that? If I'm in a firefight, I may be gripping the gun as hard as I can (no problem there) -- but if injured in any way, perhaps just perhaps I wouldn't be able to activate the gun because of that grip safety. Sure, lots of people trust their lives to such a system, but ... y'know, I just purely love the simplicity of the Glock.

Bottom line? Go with what works for you. Both of them are excellent guns, both will put shots where you want 'em as long as you do your part, and both are defense-caliber weapons in acceptably concealable packages.

There are even a few more to consider: HK P2000 subcompact, CZ RAMI, SW P99-Walther P99 subcompacts.

My first nod would go to the Kahr PM9. Those are small!

2nd would be the XD9's. I've been wanting one for a long long time but quite honestly, its pretty damn thick. But the ergo's are better than the glock, the grip is slightly longer to fit your hand better and for me points better also. Go for the XD over the Glock.. Go for the Kahr over the XD :D

Down here in South Florida (where it gets hot most of the year), I carry a G26. Why? Cause I can sweat all over it and I don't have to worry about rust. If my G26 was a regular gun, it would be rusted solid by now...

I own an XD9 subcompact. I cant say enough about that gun. The trigger on it is sweet, and hold 10+1 rounds of 124gr Gold Dots. Lots of power in this subcompact and its very accurate. You can hit steel plates at 25 yards all day.

Back in the day when I was a CAB driver, the frist gun that found it's way into my life was the G26. Great for concealing when working late night's. The G26,27,33 and I did at one time own the G30 in .45acp and these gun's are great in a coat pocket. Great gun's and fun to shoot, and never had one foul up on me. I sold all of my Glock's about five years ago, well they come and go. Well the gun's that I own now I'm real happy with. Just this last week I paidoff a Sig p229 in .40s&w wow what a gun. Last year I found a sweet deal on a XD-40 great gun for the money. I wish I would of saved my money like $700.00 to $800.00 back in the day and got the one gun that I can't stop looking at, my SIG P229. Maybe it's because I haven't been able to shoot it. :banghead:

Don't forget...a Pierce extension on a Glock will greatly increase shootability without sacrificing any concealability.
