step-through frames are too noodly if you wanna put some power to the pedals. For a while, there was a 'mixte' frame which involved two smaller top-tubes running downward from the head tube downward back toward the rear hub and straddling the seat tube. It worked pretty well, but the diamond frame won out in popularity. I've put t'ousands of miles on diamond frames and have never had a problem with 'em (and I've crashed a few times, too).
Currently, I carry this with me, in the back of the van, as I'm away from home 3 weeks out of the month, and don't have the capacity to carry my regular bikes.
