Remington Nylon 10

I have a Remington Nylon 10 single shot bolt action that when the bolt handle is pushed into the downward position (after cycling the action), the firing pin indicator on the back of the bolt drops aprox. half way forward (with a pretty loud 'click') rather than staying cocked all the way as I believe it should. This results in some light primer hits that at times fail to fire. I am having trouble finding much usefull information on the problem or the cure. Any ideas where to look?

I took the bolt apart and don't see a problem there, so although I didn't know that was the actual sear I had my suspicions the problem was in the lower end of the rifle. I also have not been able to figure out how to get the stock off, aside from probably destroying it in the process. Almost looks like the bbl would have to come off of the receiver first, or that stock is very flexible. Any insight on that part of things? (just for my own personal education if nothing else). I don't want to get in too far over my head, as years ago I once tried to take a Nylon 66 apart and don't want to make that same kind of mistake again (to the gunsmith in pieces).
