Clarification

As far as high cap firearms go, you need a Class A to own any gun with a magazine capacity of over 10 rounds.

Careful. You need an "A" only to:

1. Possess a HANDGUN w/a "large capacity" magazine; or

2. CARRY concealed.

Massachusetts law defines a "firearm" as a HANDGUN (in most, but not all, the statutes!); however, everyone else, especially the Feds, equate "firearm" with "gun."

So, to say you need an "A" to "own any gun with a magazine capacity of over 10 rounds" is not quite correct. An LTC/B would permit ownership of any "large capacity" rifle or shotgun and a NON-"large capacity" handgun. It would NOT allow concealed carry.

Confused yet?

If so, you grasp the concept!

Got a question for Tory.

The OP has stated that he has an XD, as no SA's are being approved and therefore the XD is not approved can he bring this gun into MA? I have heard both yes and no on this type of question regarding unapproved firearms. The XD is also high-cap so I don't know if that causes anymore complications to bring it into the state.

To be honest I am no more clear on the OP's obligations when he moves to MA than I was after reading the first post.

Apples and oranges

The OP has stated that he has an XD, as no SA's are being approved and therefore the XD is not approved can he bring this gun into MA?

The AFR is irrelevant as to:

1. Private transfers and

2. Moving into the state with one's own property.

It ONLY applies to DEALER sales.

Once AGAIN; the gun is not the problem, the MAGAZINES are.

No offense to all our friends already living in MA, but I have to agree with the posts suggesting not moving there in the first place. I know that's not always possible in the case of a job relocation. I also know there's value in not running from the fight. But sometimes voting with your feet and your dollars is all the "powers that be" understand.:banghead:

Maybe so, but I bet that if every serious gun owner in Massachusetts moved out, there would not be enough feet or dollars to make the "powers that be" understand anything.

If we prohibited the politicians from having bodyguards/security details and made them protect themselves as if they were like everybody else, then maybe we'd see a change. I'm not holding my breath.

Uhm...I read the part about going to the police station and being patronized by a police officer over the permit form...and the thing about buying your magazines..in-state, you're good, out-of-state, you're a felon...

Plus nobody seems to have a definitive opinion on anything...sounds like police stopping you, checking your trunk, and sending you to jail over one more round than they tought you should have in it.

I am reconsidering indeed...
